Glad to see some input and that it has been changed to 1999 lightning. Lets get this started. What are your mods and times? I know there are a lot of other boards but what the heck let's start again. Maybe things have changed since post on other board. Sooooo let's give it a go. Mods: Bassani headers and cat backs, M/S single blade T/B, Pro M MAF and filter, 3.73 gears, Super Chip flip chip (custom burned by Lone star Performance in Dallas for mods) aluminum drive shaft, M/T ET streets, Levek 10 shift kit, T/cov redone sinle disc with cevlore clutch and raised stall to 2300. Best time 12.82 @ 106 1.82 60ft times in 45 deg weather before trans mods. Today 70 deg weather. Best 60 ft 1.76 ET 12.90 @ 104. Who's next??

Stout Lightning you have there. Mines is stock and staying that way for now (have two other cars to finish, Buick 455 convertible and VW Thing). And I will probably end up working on the Cobra suspension before I get around to modding the L.

All that being said, only ran it once, perfect day at RedRiver here in S'port, temp was in the 40s, track temp was 80. Second time at the strip in the last 10 yrs so I am not "Joe Racer" but did well enough. Ran a best of 13.76 at 98mph into a 15-20 mph headwind. Other stock 2000 there the same day, he was being "Joe Racer" ran a bunch of 13.6s and low 13.7s with a crazy 13.49 thrown in, I called BS at first but talked to too many people who saw the run and the slips.

I took my 2000L for the first time this Suday, My first time ever on a dragstrip, mine is bone stock with 1600 mi on the odometer. I ran a best of [email protected], it was 64 degrees, with a good 15 mpg headwind. My 60 ft times sucked 2.23, I could not launch at more than 1/2 throttle without spinning I have a PSP 4-way chip that I have to get reburned and a PSP filter(not installed yet), I also have Nitto drag radials that will definitely be on the next time I go. She had a lot more in her, I just could not hook up at all. I just wanted to get the feel for being at the track, get a baseline number and try to learn the ropes without getting in anybodys way.

Mods

Howdy:

I have a White 99.5 early build #247.
Mods include the following:
Bassani full system headers to tips.
PSP 2 position chip/Superchips 2 position chip
(I am currently running the Superchips one)
PSP intake tube & filter.

Currently have 13K on the clock (It is my work truck and I only live 14 miles from my store). Only problems of note are the notorious front end clunk and attendant "wandering front end".
Still on original plugs/original radiator fill/original intercooler fill. Ruined one tire on a curb and am still running the other three originals with about 50% wear.

All other problems are most likely due to the mods. It pings under hard accelleration on winter gas if the chip is activated. The exhaust system has to be constantly untightened and realigned and retightened, but I had that problem with the stock system too.

Have never taken it to the track, but did have it dynoed way back when after I installed just the chip and got about 28 hp at the wheels with no learn time.

I am very picky about racing on the street, read only when super safe, and have danced the dance probably a dozen or so times. Won against almost all the domestics, but got beat by a couple of V-12 Bimmers and at least one V-12 Benz and one of those little Benz roadsters with the little K on the side. Nasty little buggers.

Am sort of aquainted with a few other L owners in the Atlanta area and all have the same story, that no "Maros or "Stangs will tangle with them any more, so the reputation is pretty well established.

Love the performance and my only dislikes are the low quality of the audio system (also no power antenna) and what I feel is a cheesy interior other than the seats themselves which are first class.

1999 Black : sold in Jan as a trade for a 2001. Still waiting, it should be here on Monday !

My best times were: [email protected] stock, [email protected] with an early SuperChip as the only mod.
