could you explain your methods, you seem to have some very strange numbers, you also seem confused re: your 400m sprint and standing 1/4..

Everyone was saying that now FORD have a multi valve/quad cam engine it will rev and do all this (times etc). Guess what, it does not rev and people on here saying it's only .2 of a sec etc, you were all bad mouthing the LS1 and saying the ford will kick the arse of the GTS. Now it's, times don't really matter, look at what you get for your money, it's meant to be compared with a Clubsport not a GTS.

Face it, the XR6t is king even in standard form, let alone when some ricers get hold of them.

when the gt and xr6t are dragged against each other and the xr6t is quicker ; on that and only that occasion will i believe that the xr6t is quicker than the GT. Let me remind you again

XR6T = 240kw and 450nm torque

GT = 290kw and 520nm torque

and the xr6t doesn't way that much less than the GT...

xr6t = 1710kg, GT = 1825kg (both from wheels)

The GT ia a Clubbie competitor have a look at the power to weight ratio. They are both around the 6.3-6.4 mark, the GTS is about 5.7.
Also the XR8 is pretty much identical to the SS.

First off what where you using to time your runs, if it was a g-tech there goes your data's credibilty. secondly you clearly state 2 very different 1/4 mile times, and if your getting 16's without traction control you may want to adjust your driving style. No way is an R8 almost 2 seconds slower in a o-100, sorry but there are too many holes in your post to be taken seriously.

14.42 is quite dissapoiting. But the GTS wasnt pulling near the numbers as it is now. I'm just haning till the next MOTOR issue whe btoh the XR8 and the GT are compared to thier market rivals in the SS and Clubsport.

It's going to be close. I reckon the SS might have the edge on the XR8 just, but with any luck the GT should be slightly quicker than the clubsport.

Being new to the forum, I wonder if someone with a bit more mechanical expertise could help me?

Doe the mandatory Holden By Design - 5 Litre Oil Cannister in the boot help the GTS 0-100K time.

More Weight - Better Traction Vs More Weight - Slower Acceleration?

Quality over Quantity any day!

By the way, second car is a Big Block Impala.

There may be another explanation due here. I owned an ex HSV press car a few years ago and it went like STINK! A 180kW clubby that beat many of the 215 cars!

I remember having a conversation with some HSV guys about the car one day and I got a very cagey smile about it :insane: :beerbottl

Are we seeing 'Optimised' engines in these press cars? Why would a VY GTS pull those insane times (compared to the times we saw for VT/VX 300 engines cars)?

I want to see comparo cars go on a dyno to verify the car's stock trim!

Also, over the years I have seen many cases of engines coming from manufacturers which are supposedly identical. Yet put two cars side by side and the difference is amazing. I remember seeing a dyno proven 20+ kW difference between two VN Group A SS Commodores! One got a rebuild from Holden!

the red GTS in PCOTY was the same car 'VYGTS' that wheels used in the top speed comparo. in that test it got 0-100 in 5.6. So i dont think the GTS was optimised.

In various tests Motor pulled 13.5 out of the VT/VX GTS cars on all except one occasion where they ran a 13.9 now they ran a 13.3 in the VY (HSV claims this time for the GTS). It was wheels who kept running 14s in what I believe was sometimes the same car! Dont get the two mags confused. GTS 300s have run low 13s at the strip in the hands of average punters to.

craig from ls1.com.au has pulled a [email protected] in his stocker so its not unreasonable

im happy for cars to go on the dyno as part of the test criteria as well.

daniel from chipmaster has pulled a [email protected] on his unopened ls1 cv8 (alot of tuning and some bolt ons),won the unopened ls1 auto class and Holden Ford show with 244rwkw and backed it up on the track with the above times

and some people wonder why we love these engines

To right Strife, the LS1 is a fantastic engine that has been let down by details and poor quality. A real pitty but I love mine and it is not even modified!

If performance/dollar ratio was your ONLY factor!!!!

I dont see it as a bargain beyond that though. Its an exectutive with an LS1 and sports suspension! Have you sat inside one? They do nothing to make you feel you are driving anything more than a taxi.

So if straight line speed is such an important issue (and you are misguided if its the only basis for a purchase), then go for it. If you want a car that you will feel good in and enjoy the overall package, SV8 aint it.

end 2c.
True the SV8 has no class. or much of anything. an Exec with a V8, alloys and Sports suspension.

1st things first, please stop using CAPS in all your posts, people have asked this of you before.

2ndly, where are you pulling these times from?

3rdly I agree with VXls1

so are you guys saying there isnt a buying class that wants the type of performance the base level v8 cars are offering ?

wasnt there concern on this forum that ford should be offering a competitor to this range ?

not everyone can afford an xr8, ss etc

I brought my povo pack exec because that is exactly what I was looking for, I wished Holden had offered a dulled down CV8 not the current calais type spec which pushes the price barrier.
