Hey, good luck on getting that '98! Now THAT'S what I would really like. I still want a P71, but it would be really nice to have a newer one without a lot of the issues you get with the older ones. Maybee next time around I'll get a newer one.

I think the real test of ANY car whether it be new, used, or whatever, is the 30 day test. Are you still happy with your car 30 days after you bought it, or are you thinking, "man, I really should have looked around a little more".
I'm still fairly happy with it, and the price I got it for ($4500), but it really required a lot of misc. work. It had a horrendous leak on both sides of the dash, which caused me to have to totally gut the car, dry out the insulation, and find and fix the leaks. Also, the exhaust manifold bolts (where the manifolds bolt to the heads) are severly rusted, and 1 bolt on each bank is broken off. If that weren't bad enough, there is no way possible the other bolts are going to come out of there without also breaking, due to the severity of the rust on them. I have new manifolds to put on (for some reason, they appear to be severly rusted as well.... special thanx to Michigan winters and salt on the roads). This little job is going to cost a minimum of $1000 to fix. If I buy new heads, it will be even more.

yes, I did remove the spotlights. I really have no use for them, and one of them didn't work anyway, so I took them off. Still have the rear deck lolipops, though!
Mods to date are:
Trans Go shift kit (.093 hole)
new Bilstein shocks all around
new Dayton Daytona SR tires (nothing special, but they look very factory-like)
K&N conical filter with custom MAF adapter
removed mufflers (straight pipes)
Tarus SHO console installed
wired up wig-wags & traffic backers
WOW! That is a good looking car. I think that what you said about 30 day test after you buy are is very true. I would be able to afford a 98 if I was out of high school (will be a senior this year when school starts again ) so I'm only working part time.
Actully, I like the 99+PIs because I like the blacked out grille and bumper trim. I know that I can do that to the 98, but damn!, Ford prices are a little to pricey$$$ to buy all the parts.
Didn't your '96 PI have 78K miles when you bought it? I think that I remember reading that on CV.N.
The '97 PI that I'm looking at is silver w/grey interior I've NEVER seen a silver PI w/grey. They have all ways been blue. It is very nice with no scrates or dents. It has a driver side spotlight, and only two rubber plugs on it: One on the roof and the other on the center of the trunk. It has 98K miles on it and they want $5,500 for it, so, I might buy it. When I buy a PI, it will be my first car too.

Silver PI? That would be sweet! I was waiting for emergencyremarketing.com to get a few silver ones in they were expecting, but by the time I was ready to buy, they still had not gotten them in, so I bought mine. These were supposedly very clean, with around 70k miles, for $4500. They were '95's
Might want to check out www.emergencyremarketing.com if you're anywhere near Ohio. Brett is a great guy there, I've talked to him a few times, and he typically has pretty nice cars, although you can get some less expensive and older ones from him also.
