Hi everyone. I just found this forum tonight and its the best. You all seem like a bunch of top blokes.

Well my cars a 1986 XF Falcon. Yes... im another one of those XF owners that you see all over the place.

I've lowered the suspension, put in a stereo, got a new 6 put in it, tints, XG ute front grille, 4-door central locking and alarm, colour coded mirrors/tail light.. etc

Here are some photo's that you should be able to click on to enlarge:

XF Falcon,

It's really good to see a clean and imacculate XF, they are one of my favourite falcons and definitly look the best out of the X Series falcons. Keep lookin after her mate, finding a Straight XF these days is nigh impossible.

Oh yeah another thing, geez i've never seen an XF engine bay so clean, good stuff. Yeah 4.1 is definitly a flyer compared to the 3.3.

My Mate had an XF Fairmont in Metallic Grey, but he killed it thats another story, but yeah thats how i have a liking for XF's.

If you want to do it very cheaply (aka free), you can get an angle grinder and cut your springs yourself (assuming you know how to take out the springs yourself). But then your ride quality is gonna drop heaps, and its probably gonna be bouncy as hell while driving.

Otherwise, just buy a set of lowered springs (mine cost about $240 for a set of 4 Lovell low springs) and simply replace your existing ones. I also changed my shock absorbers at the same time, as the originals were crap. Thats about another $200 for a set of 4 shockies. You may as well replace them while youve got them out of the car.

Another alternative would be to pick up a second hand set of lowered springs, im sure it wouldnt be too hard. Check your local newspapers and stuff. This would work out the cheapest (appart from the cut job).

Well, I hope this helped you.

I've got some old S Pak springs (replaced them with King springs).

I'll sell them for $48,999, that should get me one of those XR8 Rebels.:D  :D

Nice XF. How much was the XG grille?, wouldn't mind one on my ghia.
I got mine from Coventrys here in Perth in Feb 2000.

Grille = $ 40.97
Badge Moulding = $ 7.95
Ford Badge = $ 17.56

Now the badge moulding is entirely optional. You can have the grille without this.. but in my opinion it does not look right without the centre bit and the badge.

You gotta paint the grille, bacause its black when u get it. I just purchased cans of plastic primer + colour coded paint + clear top coat from Marlows, and did the job myself.

how ****ty whould the ride b ? if i cut my springs unless anyone has got some cheap 2nd hand lowering springs?

My friends one is chopped, its just heaps more bouncier than if it were lowered springs.
Apparently they can pop out of place?? not sure though.

On the other hand, my sistes TX3 has been on chopped springs for close to a year now, and that thing handles absolutely ***n awesome!! its got standard shockies too... and its got NO BODY ROLL at all, and its not all that stiff either. Her car is the complete opposite of what everyone says.

Cutting springs is Illegal (or it is in NSW iirc) and it makes the car handle like an dog on lino (to Coin a phrase from Dicky J) the only thing it does is make the car appear to look good as it is lower...
Don't go the cheap way, go for a set of proper lowering springs.

There is a thread that discussis this topic somewhere from a while back I'll see if I can dig it up.

I agree with DK I wouldn't cut my springs either, its illegal and also half the time the car leans too one side because the springs are of varying lenghths, plus the ride isn't as good.

I have know problems with my setup of Super low King springs on the front with Low King springs on the rear, with Monroe GT Gas shocks all round.:D
