Could some one help me with my 92 nc fairlane problem,the gear box is doing weired things,the car will drive fine then i will stop the car and get out ,but when i get back its like the thing is stuck in drive ,i can not get reverse and here is the crazy thing it still drives forward even when its in park? then for no reason it finds reverse and off she goes like nothing happened,and the box feels fine.i have been told 2 storys 1 the box is stuffed, 2 its the solenoid thats not selecting the gear,i have noticed a hissing sound when the car is put into foward or reverse ,but it stops when in park or neturel.has any one else heard of this problem.

you need a GOOD auto mechanic ,

Trans is shagged.
seen this twice. I am told its the planetary gears seizing.
Tow it backwards...should go bang....and then you MIGHT have normal operation.
If you do get normal operation, you can then drive it down the road. It might go 1k, it might go 1000. You will get odd thumps and bangs driving along.
Just get a change over and be done with it.
