Just acquired an EA GL 4door sedan, 3.9CFI. Replaced the factory fuel filter and goes good as gold. Problem is the plugs are black with carbon (fuel/air mix?) and the engine runs really cold. Do I check if there is, or install a thermostat. If so, which brand is reliable?

Ford thermostats seem to be generally better than most aftermarket ones mate.

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the sixes. Try www.eseries.com.au, might be some handy info there ;)

For the small price difference it is better to go genuine ford. They have the little valve in them to prevent air pockets which some of the others do not. However,my one lasted 5 years and then stayed slightly open.

Hmm, thats interesting...
i hate being cold, so i replace the thermostat in my I6 every easter as a matter of routine maintenance!

For the $4 i would rather be warm!
