I need some help! My 1991 taurus with the 3.0 keeps dying on me. It runs fine when its cold, but as soon as it warms up it wont take any throttle pressure....push the gas and it dies. It has a brand new throttle position sensor,new fuel filter, and a new mass air flow meter. I had a conical filter on and then I put the stock airbox on and it still does dies. Any suggestions would be a big help. Could it be the fuel pump?

Well if it works when it's cold, and dies once its warmed up, you need to pay attention to a few things.

1) Watch the tach. Does the needle just drop? Or does it fall with rpm?? Also when you turn the car over to start it, does the needle bounce also? or stay at the bottom??

2) Also look at your Check Engine Light, turn the key to the run position, if it stays on then......

Your water pump is leaking onto your Crank Position Sensor and that is your problem. And a common problem on the SHOs. check out www.shotimes.com for more info.

1989-1995 TaurusDieing after warming up

Another thing you might want to check out and that is to see if you have an exhaust manifold leak because that is exactly what it would do if you have one. I know, I just went throught the same thing myself on my 1994 SHO. After start up the engine would run smooth but after it warmed up it wouldjust die on me. If it is that, be glad because the repairs are not that much.

My 87 Taurus does about the same thing, hesitates and sometimes stalls just as the throttle is applied. The TFI module did not have any effect, nor did the MAP sensor, or the throttle position sensor. The 87s have a different system than the 91s, but it seems they can have the same problems. Try putting a timing light on it when its malfunctioning, that will tell you if its electrical, or fuel related.
