(NSW) FF & E-Series Karting Day - MARCH

:edit: :edit: :edit:
DETAILS OF VENUE AND TIMES HAVE NOW BEEN ADDED
HERE

:edit: :edit: :edit:

I’m looking at organizing a combined FordForums / E-Series Sydney go-karting day in MARCH, and was wondering how many of the NSW guys would be interested.

We have a couple of choices for venue.

Of course in Sydney you start with the Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway. http://www.easterncreekkarts.com.au/

Advantage of this place is that they’re open 9am-10pm Sunday to Thursday and 9am-11pm Friday & Saturday so we could go night Karting if we wanted. They also race rain or shine so the weather isn’t an issue. “Arrive and Drive casual hire of the 13hp Karts is $42 for 15 minutes and $77 for 30 minutes racing.

Alternatively, you can do their “Mini Grand Prix” for a group booking of 10-20 people over a 3 hour period for $195 per person in their corporate “Thunder Karts” !!!

This event includes:

- Official welcome and registration
- Driver training and safety briefing
- Warm up
- Heat 1 and Heat 2
- Heat 3 and Heat 4
- Grand Final
- Presentation of Awards

The drawback is of course the cost. ECIKR can be quite expensive compared to some other smaller tracks in Sydney.

----------

Minto Fastlane Go-Karting is a 500m outdoor track (no website found) where group bookings are more a sort of track hire. Up to 8 people racing costs $440 for 1 hour (plus $3 license per person). 8-16 people costs $660 for 1½ hours and 16-24 people costs $880 for 2 hours.

----------

Then you have the Indy800 outdoor track out at Wilberforce (in the grounds of The Butterfly Farm) just past Windsor. I’ve been to this track in the past and can say from experience that it’s pretty good.

An 800m track with a decent size and layout, a group booking (10 people) would see us paying $88 each for 4 15 minute karting sessions. Their website is at http://www.indy800.com.au/indy800.html

The Butterfly Farm also has picnic & BBQ facilities and a boat ramp if anyone would like to bring along a boat at go waterskiing on the Hawkesbury River, as well as the Butterfly Museum.

----------

Kartatak Raceway (http://www.kartatak.com.au) is an indoor 300m track at Arncliffe. Again open till 10pm (11pm Fri/Sat), this venue is weatherproof but limited by the maximum 8 karts per session. Standard kart hire there is $46 per 30 minutes, and they have group booking packages for up to 36 (but they’re fairly complex so I can’t give you prices without finding out more at this stage).

----------

Another track is the Picton Kart Track at Maldon, about 30 minutes south of Liverpool off the Hume.

Group booking prices start from as little as 6 people @ $26 for 15 minutes, $50 for 30 minutes or $94 for 1 hour.

----------

So at this stage I’d like you to post expressions of interest and track preference please. If anyone knows of another decent Sydney track that I’ve not mentioned (I just looked these ones up in the Yellow Pages) please.

Once we get a bit of an idea of who wants to go and where we’ll set a specific time, date and place.

Cheers
Jason

PS: After checking a couple of different calendars, this will happen on either the weekend of March 13/14 or March 27/28, as the Australian F1GP is on the first weekend of the month, and the V8Supercar Clipsal500 is on in the 3rd week of March.

Re: (NSW) FF & E-Series Karting Day - MARCH

im up for this one
I PROMISE!

ive been to the minto one, was alright

ive driven past the picton one heaps and it looks alright
i think it would be a good one if we wanted a decent cruise to and from, and around the picton area

thatd be my preference

plus if we want a decent turn out it needs to be not too expensive

maybe someone has been to the picton one and can shed some light on the track, i think ive heard its good

Not many responses yet, but Picton or Minto seems like it will be the preffered option.

I guess if you have it at Minto on the Saturday afternoon then you'd have dinner at Campbelltown (maybe Chilli's or Sizzler), and if at Picton you'd cruise into Woollongong afterwards and go to one of the similar places on the strip down there.

I've also picked the 13th of March, as the V8's at Eastern Creek are in the first week of April, so people may be saving money to go to that in the last week of March.

Sorry for not responding earlier JR, it doesn't bother me where, if the date doesn't cross family commitments or work I'll be there.

Could be up for this one. Prefer Picton also.

btw Cambelltown is closer to the Picton venue than Wollongong is, a chioce of routes as well!

Well here I was very hopeful as the weekends suggested will be after baseball finishes but alas my hopes have been dashed as they clash with family commitments so it doesn't look good for me as it currently stands.

BTW video recorders overcome any problems with non Sydney race weekends.

Picton looks like it wil be the best option, though EC does look good.

I've posted a link to this thread on the Aussie Prober's site, so I hope we can raise at least 3-4 regulars.
Personally,I think the Picton option is the way to go based on price & run options.

I'm in. I prefer Picton as the track (larger and more challenging) but happy to go with the majority.

Sorry guys, I've been slack on this - spending all my time trying to get stuff done for my car before the FPV weekend.

But I'll post times and prices after I go down and speak to the guys at the karting tracks this weekend.

Cheers

Re: (NSW) FF & E-Series Karting Day - Saturday, 13th MARCH

Okay, I have most of the final details so here they are.

After checking out a number of the options, we’re heading to the Indy800 track at Wilberforce, about 5-8kms north of Windsor.

http://www.indy800.com.au/indy800.html

The owners, whom I met today, are most happy to welcome us, being Ford fans themselves (Husband & Wife drive a white BA XR6 ute and white BA XR6 sedan respectively).

MEET:
12 Noon at the Silverwater Boat Ramp, off Silverwater Road, Sliverwater (turn right at the last set of lights before the river if coming from the south, turn left at first set after the river if coming from the north).

DEPART:
12:30pm SHARP. IF you have one, set your CB to Channel 10 for the hijinks and hilarity that ensue on the run…

Turn right onto Silverwater Road, head north, then off at Victoria Road exit. Left at Victoria Rd, follow to James Ruse drive. North onto James Ruse Drive (exit ramp is on the left after the bridge and loops under to go north).

Follow James Ruse Drive north. Continue to follow as it becomes Briens Road, then Old Windsor Road. Follow Old Windsor Road all the way to Windsor. Cross the bridge, and instead of turning left into Windsor at the lights, go STRAIGHT AHEAD onto Bridge Street and down across the river and follow the road around to the right as it becomes Wilberforce Road.

The Butterfly Farm is about 6km’s along this road (You know you’re coming up to it when the road goes from 90km/h back to 60km/h just as you come up to a narrow 2 lane bridge.

There is a small gravel road entrance that allows us to park right next to the track on a grass parking area, or continue on around the corner to the main tarred entrance road to the Butterfly Farm.

The track is open 10am to 10pm on Saturdays. I have made a tentative booking for 2pm on Saturday 13th. Maximum number of karts on the track in any one sessions is 10, but if we get more they’ll stagger us.

Cost is $20 for 10 minutes, $29 for 15 minutes or $52 for 30 minutes (2 15 minute sessions). If we get more than 10 people racing on the day we get a group discount. On top of the hire cost, there is a $3 licence fee – this is then valid for 12 months of repeat visits.

Dress rules for the track are as follows:

Closed shoes - NO THONGS or SANDALS
Overalls are provided to karters.
If you do not wish to wear their communal overalls, a long sleeve shirt and long pants are required (standard neck to wrist & ankle coverings).

Even if you’re not interested in actually going karting, come along to spectate and meet up with other FordForums Members. The Butterfly Farm also has picnic, swimming & BBQ facilities (at nominal extra cost) and a boat ramp if anyone would like to bring along a boat at go water-skiing on the Hawkesbury River, as well as the Butterfly Museum.

Once we’ve finished at the track, we’ll be heading back down Windsor Road to the new Ettamogah Pub at the corner of Merryville & Windsor Rd at Kellyville for a drink of light ale and something to eat. This is a pretty big pub, so no need to book in advance, which is a plus when we won’t know finals numbers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Okay, would those that are interested please post a reply here (if you've already expresssed interest above, please post AGAIN to confirm your attendance. Please specify if you're coming and actually karting, or just to be a spectator. Both are more than welcome. As I said, it’s only 10 on the track at any one time, but sessions only go for 15 minutes tops, so everyone will get a chance.

I need your replies by FRIDAY 5TH MARCH so I can confirm final numbers with the track.

This event is open to EVERY NSW Ford Forums member, be they FF, E-Series, Euro Ford Owners, FPV-Tickford Club, 3FB or anything else I’ve forgotten to mention.

Hope to see you all there.
