the capri's been giving me cause for concern recently .

the idle is a bit uneven (this I expect as the cam profile is a bit extreme its meant for fast road use) but when under hard acceleration the engine almost looses power . The revs don't die just drif off (almost stuttering) a bit as if misfiring or something .

But like I said just under hard acceleration . Beacuse of the rebuild I did , I decided to put an injector cleaner thru it and this almost had the car running as if on nitro , it was superb , but only lasted a day .

so if it was the filter or injectors or the lines the cleaner would have sorted it but it a bit stumped . If it was the pump this fault would occur all the time .

so all thats left is a possible firing problem ie one of the sparks but they were all replaced new when the rebuild was done .

is it poss the timing could just be out by 1 degree or something stupid???

Any help greatfully received

That is strange. For the injector cleaner to work only for a day is weird.

Are you sure it isn't getting too much fuel under acceleration and flooding itself?

John probs like this can have endless possibilities. Some of the more simpler ones to check first are the heat range of the plugs to be sure they are still correct for a higher perfomance engine.I have seen a few cars beefed up in the cam and compression area that have taken many hours of searching to find that a colder range of plugs was needed. Also the plug leads should be checked. It is a start anyway .

cheers

I.ve got a few days over christmas off so I'm going to start looking into it .

The fuel was my main concern but it does seem ok at other times so its slim possibility .

The ide of too much fuel is a strong possibility as have not check the fuel pressure screw on the metering plate yet .

Also the plugs I used are the manufactures recommendeds but there are some nice Bosch ones I fancy but at £20 for 4 its a bit of a pest having a 6 cylinder engine so might leave that till last .

The leads are again standard stuff but I have been using the coil to distibutor lead as an improvised imobiliser ?????? so may have done some damage taking it of and on all the time (possibly even the distibrutor itself )

So next week I find out and like all good taureans I wont be giving up easily (maybe expensive but I wont give up )

Cheers for the suggestions

Not yet but got the spark gaps bang on and sounds a bit smoother if not quite the way it should be . The fuel filter is next so will see what this does but as the cold weather here is changing the symtoms of the fault each day its hard to see what its actualy doing it ??? Some mornings I get up and she can't lay down enough rubber the next it wont go any faster than a Focus so ???? One bit at a time and will keep you guys posted as the results can always help others .

Mine is a bit like like this (but not to the extent that yours is). But the past couple of days she's been on a real flyer. Out of interest, do you use SUL in your car? I mainly put Shell's Optimax in, and I don't know if its my wallet reacting, but she tends to feel a lot better than when I have to put normal UL in her.

I'm thinking about that as the its mainly been regular UL , the company I got the heads off of said it should be Ok but then again I was expecting a bit more power from the heads than what I got so might just try a tank and see what it does .
I've booked a rolling road session for next week so will see how things go there , I'm getting the timing and valve clearances spot on (I'm no mechanic and almost got it right just needs a small tweek) also the guy should be able to point to the fault exactly as he'll have a bit of help with a computer and gas analyser to see where its over/under fueling etc .

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEE HHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POWER!!!!!!!!!!

The fault was in the timing , it was masively out .

The problem was the bracket on the bottom of the distributer had snapped and the timing was out , the reason I never spotted it was the bracket seem to tighten up no probs and hold it but the first bump dislodged it and with each subsiquent bump it got worse .

Power was down on the expected 190BHP but then this is due to the other little things adding up , blow in the exhaust manifold , leak in the water pump and the plugs not the best also low tyre pressures (not giving a true reading on the rollers)

Theres another mod on the way aswell , looking into the possibility of ditching the injection for a holley double pumper , just a case of finding the right inlet manifold .

BUT JESUS DOES IT PULL!!!!! When the cam shaft kicks in at 2500rpm its like a turbo kick its superb!!!!

Well happy bunny !!!!!!

Its why my post have been a bit speradic , nothing for a couple of days then all of a sudden lots.

Also we have the capri clubs first meet this sunday and the 1/4 mile thrash the week after so getting a bit excited , I know I should not get my hopes up for a first meet but we have about 10 people hopefuly and a few rare ones .

Then I can ask everyone on there thoughts on a web site and maybe tie in with this one as the rates for space aren't too bad but its the tie in thats the key , people look at ours then look here and vice versa.

just typical !!!!!!

no sooner is it runnig sweet something else goes wrong !!!!

left hand curve onto a roundabout

serious pull to the left under braking (power steering stopped)
then the engine sound uneven.
then dies
I wet my pants thinking its the diff blown or something or the engines seized
then start back up white smoke pouring out of the left exhaust and won't idle .
So I pull into work and check theres nothing obvious and all ok just this smoke out of the exaust .

So looks like I have blown the cylinder head gasket and will need to rebuild b4 the capri meeting on sunday night .

not bad for efficiency the parts have been ordered and are on route already .

If its something other like a piston melted I'm stuffed but won't find that out b4 taking it apart .

And guess what !!!!!!! its gone ??????

Seems the engine is over heating , I knew this and planned a temp repair this week end . But now its escelated .

The theroy goes like this .

Gasket seeping a little water
raidiator developes leek
engine now really over heats
Just b4 it goes pop it cuts out (sparkplugs and other stuff all overheating )

So if I fix the heating problem I sort the nastyness .

"in theory"

so will see how saturday goes .

Your right about the roller coster , I suppose I'm still learning all this but it just pissed me off , doing it on the car park is one thing but when it happens out on the road it gets too much .

WOW it's like reading a post on a Land Rover forum!
Fix one thing just in time for something else to go wrong.
Hope you made your meets, did you eventually sort it?

Still ongoing

Still there ,

Change the thermostat , radiator , and the head gaskets .

As I want rid of it B4 taking a long run I am only sitting in it revving it a bit and see what the temp gauge does .

The latest was the thermostat ,

Fitted a new one yesterday and now the heat is accumulating at the top of the engine and radiator , most poeple say the radiator is blocked but this was a new one and it seemed ok when filling it up water flowed through no problem so sure its not that . The only thing left is the water pump (viscus fan conected to it and this seems ok aswell). (And I mean there is only the water pump to replace !!LOL) . I have been told due to it having an expansion tank if I rev the water in there should go up and down as I rev it . So will test this and if it sits stationary , the pumps gone ???

THE SAGA CONTINUES !!!!!!!!!!!

Jesus I'll write my own epic after this lot!!!!!
