I got a 2000 Expediton (4.6) 4x4. Every once in awhile, I notice that the digital odometer / trip blanks out. After a minute or so it comes back on and stays on for a bit, then blanks out again.

Anyone else have this problem? What did you need to do to fix?

same on my 99 navigator. Did some research and it is a known problem and not worth the cost of repair.....yes, the mileage is accurate, just can't see the display

Here is the fix for this. I did mine today, took about 30mins, easy to follow the instructions given by dakota_viking on ford-trucks.com/forums.
You'll need three tools. You will need 9/32 or 7mm sockets, 15-Torqx bit or a tiny socket may even work, and a flathead screwdriver.

Forgot to mention this tool also.

You'll need a simple soldering iron/pencil, 30Watt is plenty.
Most auto parts stores and even wall-mart have these around $6-7.

Has been happening on my Nav since 75K, 125K now. Two dealers did not know what problem was when I asked.
