I have a 88, 3.9 v-6 5 speed. 152,00 miles.
Has anyone had the oil light blinking when at idle. It does not knock or rattle when first cranked up. Even after setting up for for several days. Runs quiet when running. It does this after it warms up. I went from 5W 30 to 10W 30, no change. It did not do this when I first got it.
I was wondering if anyone may have a bad oil pump or if the pressure relief spring may be stuck.
Is there any other place to install a oil pressure gauge other than where to oil pressure light switch is. I had to change that about a year ago and it was in a bad place next to the motor mount. I almost said some dirty words about the person who designed that. >:)

I would check the oil pressure sending unit again first , spring inside gets weak and light flickers .Other bigger problem could be oil pump pick up screen partially blocked or pump itself .

Does it when its warmed up is also a sign of worn bearings. Wear between the bearing and the journal increases oil flow and reduces pressure. Especially at idle.

A mechanical gauge will give more of an insight. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any other port except where the sending unit is.

As JWKO suggests , worn bearings certainly would cause it though you NORMALLY get bearing rumble when they are really bad and causing oil pressure drop , but not always .

Thanks for the replies. When I get my shop finished I will try the mechanical gauge. Man it is in a bad place.
