Just a thought, but it seems to take forever to get to a 2nd or 3rd page in a thread. The amount of posts required to flip to a new page seems a bit high, thus when you look up a thread with 20+ posts it takes ages to get to the latest post. Might be an idea to shorten each page to say 15 or so posts to help with the speed of each thread. Like I said, it's just a thought... :)

I know on the LS1 board, the first one crashed and a large portion of the blame was placed on "free posts".
You can't do that any more since they upgraded the board with out the Mods cracking right down. Some of the posts lately are not about the thread topic and are made just for something to do. I have no idea if this board is subject to the same conditions but mods on LS1 are instructed to crack right down on this practice for the health of the board in general.

Thread length is not an issue on the board end. The board has been tested and retested with 27 different threads each reaching over 4000 posts. All this in one day with over 1/3 having picture attachments. on them. So bantering is not going to cause the server to slowdown. This database is not a Flat database like that one used on LS1. There is a difference. The database on here is a dynamic database...basically means that there is not as much of a load on the server and takes far less time to push the pages out.

As far as the time to DL. The page will depend on where you are accessing it from and the type of line you have. Of course a slower connection or bad route to the server will slow things down. I have had the pages tested in Canada and in France and there was a bit of a slowdown caused by the international jumps in routers, but most were pretty good since they were on highspeed connections.

I can reduce the ammount of posts per page, but that just increases the ammount of pages people have to go through. Either way it will still be slow if your connection is slow . AS a test I will post it at 20 per page and see what I get as feedback.

Not a problem. I have set it to 20 posts per page. There is a thing that happens on another one of my sites each Friday it is called Post Wh0re Friday and the people that want to banter relentlessly can do so at this time and only this time in a specific forum. Works well to a point. I have seen one thread there reach over 7000 posts.

Ohh the job thing is nothing. I am taking a much desered rest. I have an interview lined up for tomorrow in 12 hours for a management position for the IS department of a bank. So More than likely I will be employed soon.

As far as money to keep these open. Lunaticss foots the bill. We all have to thank him for letting us have a site like this. He let me set up the site for him (while he ran GMFORUMS and other projects). He is a freeaking guru on this stuff and has done a lot since my orig. setup here to make the site even better.
Fordforums is always looking for some paying advertisers (to help pay back his cost) so if you know someone that wants to advert. here SEND THEM OVER!

This makes you one of only 2 people I know that pay for ther server out of their own pocket.
What sort of outbound traffic/page views a day are you getting here? What sort of bandwidth are we takin up.
Cheers.

DK Sorry for the delay I was on Vacation over the weekend.

Here is the information that you were requesting.

We average about 350 uniques visitors a day.
Average Pageviews during the week are 5000
Average on the weekends are 7000

I can tell you that the majority of the traffic comes from the Aussie side of the planet. At least that is what the server records are showing.

Any other questions? Ohh yes it is out of pocket I want to get some ads up on here or maybe find a sponsor for the site. Anyone interested can contact us here.

;)

So what are your average server costs?
Last I hard OCAU which was getting a helluva lot lore hits and had many GB of outbound traffic was getting charged a fair bit, hopefully it's not the same for you until you line up some advertising deals.

Well the monthly average for transfer outbound is 70gb a month for this site.
My costs are $810 a month. So far I am able to handle this. I have sold space on the server to recoup some of the costs. I have ot sold much because I want to keep the traffic and the processor/memory usage for the board. THough I dont think I would take that bug of a hit with a dual 700 proc and 1 gig of ram.
