Hi everyone. Im looking to buy a new car. I like the look of the FORD FALCON AU Forte(1998 model). Basically as i would like a largish car, its features look good, and they are relitavely cheap. Im looking to spend around $12k.
Can anyone let me know if they think this is a good idea, and perhaps some suggestions, or what i should look out tfor in this model of car?

I would be trying for an AUII, They sorted all the bugs out from the series 1. Although it will not quite be in your budget I would try and save a little more.

talk to companies around your work place with company cars. often when they upgrade about every three years, they sell off the company cars pretty cheap. they look after them well getting them serviced all the time. i find that its less risk than going to an auction if you don't know what your looking for. Just make sure you can find one that is being sold because its three years is up not because its gone over the kms. hope that helps.

First you need to decide what you are going to use it for. if you are planning to do a lot of kilometers in it, fork out the extra for a low km one. however, if it is just a run-about save your money and buy one with 120k ish on it. if properly serviced they will not give you any worries for many years.

a couple of things to look for:

*white stains on the hood lining
this may indicate the car has been boiled at some stage, the marks are whats left after the coolant has evaporated.
*Towbar
Dont buy one with a towbar on it. chances are it has been used! avoid cars with heavy duty towbars (such as hayman reece) like the plague.

my mum drives an 2000 AU2 forte Station Wagon we purchased for $12300 at the auctions a few months back. couldnt recommend the AUs enough.
