hi everyone...

i've decided on the redback muffler.... just the decision to make is whether to put a resonator/hotdog on the back or not?

will the resonator/hotdog kill the sound? i still want her to have a nice note and to be heard.. just dont want her to drone... exhaust tip dumps at the back...

what is the diff between hotdog and resonator?

thanks...

No difference between a hot dog and a resonator, I'm guessing the resonator is just a better design than the "hot dog", removing more drone.

so if i put a resonator on, will the sound suffer as a result?
i'm organising it all tomorow.. so i need to work it out tonight...
with a resonator, will it be to quiet? without will it be too loud and drone?

please any help greatly appreciated?

Hard to tell really, every resonator is different.

Personally if it was me I'd probably go the straight pipe.

I've always been under the impression that hotdogs arent as restrictive as resonators. On my last 6cyl Falcon I had 2 hotdogs, one 24" before the muffler (mercury straight through) and one 12" before the rear bumper, the hotdogs got rid of the droning but still left the note nice and deep but didnt quieten it

That's because hotdogs are resonators and resonators don't reduce sound level.

But yeah I think a hot dog is really just a better flowing resonator, with less frequency reduction.

Resonators remove high tones, ie; drone.

i had just a redback muffler, nothing else and it was very loud and droned like all [email protected]#k when putting the boot in and goin up hills.

i got a hot dog put on the other day and it has quietend it down a bit, no bad droning when driving around town, you cant hear it when cruising above 90k's but when you are goin up a big hill and it drops back to third it is still too loud, but it has an awesome note.

If you don't want drone, the definately get a resonator / hotdog put in...

Whilst technically a hotdog is a type of resonator, i've noticed that a lot of exhaust shops actually mean smaller mufflers when they use the term 'resonator'.

If it was me, I'd be getting a hotdog put in and then if it's still not quiet enough, get them to add another.

A resonator (i.e. small muffler) will kill the note more than a hotdog.

Dave

Santo at the dyno comp there will be a few people with these setups. Just ask and most of us will only be to happy to take you for a spin to see how the diffrent exhaust systems sound.

a resonator quitens the whole thing down and looks like a small muffler whereas a hot dog is cylindrical and comes in a variety of lengths i recommend a medium size redback and a 12" hot dog infront of it
Ive had a punched cat 2.5 system with no mufflers and 1 12" hot dog if ur up for that sorta sound of 122db try it : )
