a very rude word used by the military from day to day arguements with quartermaster over the wrong shoe size to being shot at and the radio gives up the ghost when you most need it.

There was an American WW2 cartoon, can't remember the jist of it (some training aid to troops about what not to do) that featured Private Snafu. So it's an old term!

you can count on the yanks for inventing new sware words- lol Psycho Cook did Private SNAFU really exist or was really a fictional character?
I've seen the movie reel as well. There is always some element of reality
in fiction I think there are a few Gomer Piles in the US Military :)

Fubar can also be :
F***ed up beyond all repair

Also i've heard TARFU :
Things are really f***ed up

Apparently they get a fair use in the military, or so i've heard.

The only movie I have heard Snafu is on Mad Max when the Goose gets in contact with Max after he has slid into the car towing the caravan.

I never knew what it meant, but I guess now I do.

Cheers

Yep, cos it's the constant state of organisation in the army!

Snafu is also the name of a BMX company, apparently the owner named the company after his dog, dont know where he got it from, might have been from mad max. They make some really good parts for the freestyle BMX scene, and they come in really neat metal boxes.
