Well as some of you may know im doing up an 88 ea spak. Here is a bit of an update. Dads came to the party and found a motor(which he is paying for till i pay him back hehe)its out of a 96 ef fairmont which was hit between the drivers door and back door then scraped along the side towards the backend.
The motors done 77,000k and sounds sweet. Its currently at ford wreckers getting put in.The guy said its gonna be hard to put the mpfi in so hes keeping it cfi(i think he couldnt be bothered) hes supplying and fitting it for $1200, long motor only. Am i being ripped off??

Its been hard trying to find a good e series motor,most done 180,000+.Can i put a ea 3.9 mpfi stuff onto the ef(ecu,manifold basically the same way as if it was a 3.9 cfi motor)??


I am also going to repair and respray it as there a dents in the doors and the paints shot. Any tips or guides on how i go about would be appreciated!!

look up MPFI, especially Rmyers effort, or drop him a PM, he has just goen through the pain and effort of MPFI.

try and get the dual length intake and all that crap as well - dont ask him to fit it, just make sure you get it, then when you have read all the stuff on here about the conversion and stuff you can attempt it yourself.

i suppose 1200 is a good price, as it includes labour, but try and get the manifold thrown in for free!

MPFI is like five wires, it's NOT hard :p

The mechanic probably doesn't know how easy it is. And half the time you cant tell them either! I asked at ford once and it was going to be a complete rewiring job apparently!

yeah - if you do it for a job its not the same as being an enthusiast - and if you havent heard of fordforums then you are in the sh!t even more :D

anyone on here can access pretty much eveything they need to know about manifold conversions, thermofan conversions, what fits what, what you have to do to make it fit etc...ff is a massive resource to draw on - GO FORDFORUMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man the guys at Ford wreakers told me there is no such thing as a 3.45 lsd in a falcon, then I laughed in there faces so hard and siad I know of at least 3 from factory, plus the tens of others I see every day driving round. Needless to say he quickly retracted his statement. Everytime I go there I get some kind of BS from them like the old, Have you priced a new one of thoose from ford? FFS it was a bloody intake pipe he would have had 100 lying around and he spins up some bs that they are rare and tries to charge like $20. Maybe you should take your car from there to a mechs place to have it checked over as these guys dont fill me with confidence how bout you?

heh well got it back and it seems ok.Still has the problems that once it gets hot it has trouble turning off(you turn the ignition of motor still splutters for few second then stops).Im thinking it has something to do with timing or the cfi crap(cfi crap i bet)
has a few oil leaks???The dick at ford wrecking said he had to put a eb type rocker cover cause of cfi??? Atleast i got the ef one(had to ask for it,they wernt too happy bout it).

Rung em up today to tell em its leaking oil ect, all he said was once i finish cleaning it up(dents fixed,respray,ect) get it back to him and he will fix it.
Bah as if im goin to give em a car i spent just respraying,theyd scrath the f**k outa it.
As you can tell im not real happy bout them. So what i plan on doing is get it sprayed ect, the piss the cfi shit off chuck the mpfi stuff on and see if the ef rocker cover can go on now its mpfi.

I think what they have done is gotten a ef rocker gasket and used a stanley knife to trim the top lip(for the groove in the ef cover) so they can put the eb cover on and it leaking from bout the 4-5 cyl. The covers black btw so what model it from i dont know.
Only ever seen normal blue and red tickford covers.
Ohh and there's a little hose hanging between the sump and the little wavey bit of rubber on the steering rack,its leaking either p/s or auto fluid(red oil)

That ends my little bitch heheh

The EF rockerbox has different mountings for the throttle cables/plug leads, thats why its different. The gaskets do seem to seal better, however :)

red fluid there is p/s. You should find it'll fit onto the back of the p/s pump - tho WHY they took the pump out I don't know.

if the cover is black it means that the motor has probably been reconditioned before. this is what colour we spray them at my work anyway. (RPM Engines)

yeh :) well I dunno whats wrong with it yet, I think burnt valves tho it was running 150 compressions, so meh.
Was definitely the motor tho, put in the old 3.9 and it shits all over the 4L. Yes its using all the same dizzy, manifold, etc.

all the EF motors which we do at work we spray the rocker covers in black enamel except for the tickford motors which we spray red. also with you rocker cover you should try and source a late ED type. these had an EF motor in them but used the EA-ED shape rocker cover but the difference with late ED is it has the dips in the front and back of the rocker cover like the EF and i think it still has the hole for the cfi bracket but cant remember will find out for you though.

yer then it must be the late ed cover as it has the half moons back front cast on it.
Can you use any enamel or just the engine enamel heat stuff??
They used the old rocker gasket so id say thats why its leaking.Will have to get a new one.

I have used bumper paint on rockerboxes without dramas...

yeah any enamel will do you wont need that engine enamel its just more expensive and will only do as good a job as regular enamel. all enamels when they are heated go hard anyway and you will get a good gloss from enamel too. also definetly buy a new rubber gasket it should stop it from leaking (as much) as old ones go hard after a while.

If it is the typical wreaker they probably pulled the rocker cover of and ED and bolted it straight on witout replacing rockercover gasket.
