5.4 Litre cammer

Hi Paul;

That is the same motor used in the US for the F-series trucks. An informant who works for Tickford has stated that the 5.4 is the engine currently undergoing testing in AU mules.

From what I can gather, the 5.4L is an iron block motor. The versions fitted to F-series trucks carry the alloy SOHC heads. The version fitted to the 2000 model SVT Cobra Mustang R was the same block, but with the DOHC alloy heads borrowed from the 4.6L Mustang Cobra. Yes you are right about the power output. SVT claimed 1/4 mile times of 12.9 seconds for the Cobra R 'Stang.

Now all Ford needs to do is shoehorn one of these into a Falcon, and put a GT badge on it.....

The Iron block gets me.They are not talking of a stroker Windsor are they of 330 or 340 stroker crank?:wink2:

That 385Hp and 385Ft/lbs is way underrated, they nearly pull that much at the wheels on US dynos ([email protected] and [email protected] RWTQ - Motor Trend Mag)
So in actual fact they make around 430Hp and 440ftlbs of torque (12.5% drivetrain loss) or 320Kw and 600Nm of torque :D:D

Makes that LS1 look puny :eek:

I doubt they will be that powerful in Aussie trim though:(

And Muscle Mustang, Fast Ford Mag got 12.3 1/4mile from one I think.

Something tells me you're spot on the money Martin... :(

I think the new 8 will be good, but I don't think she'll be that good...

I think that HSE2 mentioned in another thread that the new 5.4 is not the same motor thats currently around.Tho that could mean it's a variant of that same engine but new block re the all alloy.Sounds Awwwwsome tho as Iv'e said before i wish it was 5.8.:wink2:

HSE2 sounds correct i think. It will still be a pretty big verhaul i believe. However, there is still the possibilty that the "new" 5.4 l v8 is "all new" It should be all alloy and does boast 3 valves and VCT. there is a brief article on BON (oops i mentioned those 3 letters) about the current and future 5.4l under "engine news"

We need to hassle robert lane for more news! he knows what we want to know!

how exactly is the 5.4 we will be getting different to the yanks version HSE2????

can anyone say what these engines are like for after market modification? and how much power in the next 10 years could ford/tickford be getting out of it? because i think that if the engines starts out at 280 and can only get to 300 tops then thats pointless. the engine needs to be able to make smalll gains as it goes along

the old windsor we had has come from 163 or 168? to 220 and thats about it without stroking it so what exactly can be done with the 5.4????

any info or sites would be appreciated guys

although any engine sure sounds better than living with 200kw xr8's and 220kw t series ;)

Rat -Oh about the only thing the two motors havein common is the name. Much of this is still speculation, we are just going to have to wait. Power won't be a problem though!:evil2:

I think a few of us are looking for more local info rather than US based stuff... Something's happened at BON but it's anyone's guess what that is...
Who cares I say!!... We now have two great places to meet and talk Ford... :CraZ: :p :CraZ:

From what I have seen in the states. The Mod motor takes to forced induction really well, cheap too. There are NOT many high performance parts around, the parts that are will possibly be that expensive,a blower would be the cheapest way.I like the Kenny Bell set up that sits under the inlet manafold.
Ford are re-engineering there mod motors for power according to MM&FF.Some drag motors are using a spray bore 5Ltr.The alloy block cylinders are sprayed with hot metal [iron?] then bored etc, instead of linners.Making it VERY light. It's vertually an over bored 4.6 running cobra or whatever top end .This could allso be done to an alloy 5.4.I guess. So there is another senario?
