All,

This popped up on the wife car.... 92 CV Touring Edition, a few months ago....

Speedo works great up to about 48 or so... then hangs.... as soon as you slow down, then it works at the sub 48 ish speeds.

If you are going above the 48 "problem point" and just push in on the odometer trip meter button, then the speedo works just fine!!! Until you let up on the button! Then it sticks where ever your speed currently is.

I've not gotten into this one yet, nor even cracked the shop manual.... as it appears that to remove the guage pod, you probably need to dissassemble the intire dash???

I've done the heater core already, and it was not a damned bit of fun!!!! ...plus the manual is a bit misleading from time to time.... par usual for car pubs....

Anyone pulled a guage pod recently????

Just recently, I the speedo stopped working on my CV. I took it to a local shop, and $75 and 30 minutes later I was happy as a clam. It looked easy to disassemble the dash, so I probably could have done it, but the work on the speedo unit is very specialized, so it's best to defer to the pro's.

I'm sweatin' the "pod" removal part.... but I just saw a PC in a wrecker the other day, and now, it appears a bit less daunting. Pull the trim piece across the dash, then there's a bunch more screws for the surround panel.... then somehow extract the speedo cluster! I guess I'll just have to do it! Perhaps over the holiday....

Too bad that some bozo had already mucked up the speedo in the wrecking yard... it was a 140 cert'd version..... something I could really use.... OK, not in this car.... my other one.....

After you get all the screws out, the speedo unit just sits in the dash. You have to remove the oil and volt meters first, but they just sit in there, too. Once it was out, the tech treated it like it was a bomb he needed to defuse, it was so delicate, so be careful when you do pull it out. He changed a gear, cleaned it and re-certified it - all in about thirty minutes.

Another thing - where can you get Ford shop manuals on the web? I've looked for CVPI manuals, but cannot find them. I'd prefer them on CD, but paper will do.

Manuals (Was Speedo Prob)

Check eBay for shop manuals etc. They have them both in paper and on CD. I just saw a 92 Shop Manual for about $20. Prices are coming down a bit as more turn up.

My folks have a 92 manual that they don't need any more too. THey had asked me about it, but I already had one. I'll probably throw it on ebay for them.

Other manuals....

EVTM- Electrical Vacume Troubleshooting Manual

Good piece for general signal tracing. Not a real big manual, but nice tidbits.... like how to disable your rolling door lock feature!!! (auto door locks) I think this was a feature with the keyless entry cars only.... UNFORTUNATELY, when it comes to codes etc, they are NOT in this book as you'd expect.....

For the life of me, I can't remember the last book. This is a monster!!!! 5-6 inches thick! Covers all the various codes, engine, trans, brakes, etc that the computer puts out, plus how to fix....


If you go the CD route, be certain that you are getting the whole tamale! Shop manual, EVTM, and the code section. Even more cool would be the book on the AODE trannies too! This is a very special piece!
