Hi all,

My daughter took her 2018 Edge SEL to the dealer to have it prepped for a road trip and to check a splashing sound coming from the left dash area. Dealer mechanic said he thought it was coolant splashing against the heater core and could be a sign of big trouble. I question this as it just doesn't pass the smell test, especially when her vehicle has no warning lights, no leaks of any kind or any indication of a problem. She is waiting for a call from the dealership to confirm their findings.

I'm leaning towards the a/c drain being plugged with junk. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

Bulkhead water drains needing unblocked are a common cause on most vehicles , not yours specifically as I dont know the setup / layout on that car or location of drains You get the same noise if door drains are blocked

I hope it's not your issue but there does seem to be a bit of history of head gasket failures with these vehicles (see 2018 Ford Edge Engine problems and https://lemberglaw.com/2018-ford-edge-problems-complaints-lemon/ and Ford Edge Questions - FORD Edge coolant in # 3 cylinder - CarGurus etc and this Ford Service Bulletin https://www.tsbsearch.com/Ford/SSM47462 ) and if the head gasket has failed air and combustion gases may enter the cooling system causing a gurgling sound at the heater core. If it proves to be the cause also see https://www.newsom.law/ford-edge-overheating-lawsuit.html

Yes, it is THAT problem. Dealership says coolant leaking into the block. A new engine replacement is required according to the TSB. Luckily, it's on them! Thanks for the reply!
