I am thinking of getting an new XR6 when and if the series 2 comes out . I cannot decide which seats to get , the standard leather ($2000) or the sports leather ($2500). I like the look of the sports leather seats but the insets are suede? I have been told suede is hard to keep clean , it wears out and can change colour when its brush against the "grain". I can't believe Ford charge $500 extra over standard leather seats and there is less leather? .What is everyone else's opinion on this new seats and what experiences have you had?

I wouldnt bother with the leather, it seriously looks gay after a few thousand km's and wears pretty bad. The standard cloth looks much better after a fair thrashin.

Put your butt into the respective seats for a half hour drive or so if possible.
That should sort 'em out for you.

(for a $2.5k option the dealer should have no problem letting you do this)

See if your dealer has a deal with a local trimmer and custom order them like I did.

As for XTS220 comment about them looking gay, well obviously if you dont look after them of course they are going to wear, just like any seat covering. Meguaires leather conditioner will do that for you.

These are pics of mine. I paid the same price as Ford's sport seats and had them done to my specifications.

The other difference is that Ford leather seats aren't 100% leather.

The inserts are leather, the rest is vinyl but they fail to mention that.

Does your passenger side display the Turbo under the XR Logo. I went for a ride in an XR6 turbo yesterday and i know the passenger side didn't say that. I didn't look at the drivers side. I also think his leather seats were slightly different.

I'm interested in getting the XR logo stitched into my Leather seats, both front and back. But apparently, if I want to use the same font and size, i need fords permission under copyright laws. I can get the job done for about $200. Ford I would imagine would charge five times as much to do it.

The reason i say they look gay is because they look worn after like 10 000 kms, my dealer has a demo GTP with leather/suade and the seats dont look good at all.

Yes mine has it on both front seats but not the rear. These ones aren't done by Ford. They are done by a local trimmer that the Ford dealer I bought the car has a deal through.

They normally just do the XR logo but I asked them to stitch in the Turbo logo as well for something different as well as the light grey stitching.

All up it cost me $2400 for the seats and door trims and IMO far better than the standard Ford leather.

My AU has done 33,000ks and the seats look good. I think they are a little worn and you can notice marks on the seats. I think that comes from it being an ex ford exec vehicle. I doubt they would have treated the leather very often. But still, they look good.

I think leather wears better than standard material. You can give them a once over with Meguaires leather wipes and they come up a treat. They look a lot cleaner than material. Best part is you spill liquid on it, you can wipe it straight off. My 2 and a half year often spills his drink on the seats. Wipe them straight away. And while i'm waiting for the seats the dry, i got time to give him a beating. hehe. Just kidding.

Anyway, Leather looks good, if you take the time to care for it.

I think the couple hundred he quote me was just for the removal of the leather and to send it to the embroider. Maybe If could get the name of the place I could contact them myself and see how much to do mine. If thats ok.

They look great. Good choice. Ford leather is not the best. Unless you get a ghia. I think the leather in that is smicko.

I saw a TE50 on the weekend. It had blue inserts in the seats with the tickford logo in the seats. They look very nice. I wonder if that came standard with the the T-Series.

No Worries,

I don't know their name either!

I've been meaning to ring Alto Ford at Artarmon to find out who did them as I've been asked a lot of times about the seats.

I'll have to get back to you on that one.

I was talking to a fellow from Power Ford at Castle Hill, they have a contact who do the standard seats up in leather with a suede inserts, bonus is the suede inserts are coloured simular to the car. Seen one in Phantom looked pretty sweet.

Prices was for memory a few hundred dollars more than the Ford standard leather seats.

I might give them a call. Can't hurt to try a few places. I might try the local dealers here and see if they have any recommendations.
