whats the difference between a gear reduction and a clapper starter motor
which one is better

a clapper starter motor is one that has a remote mount solenoid , which takes it away from the exhaust
a gear reduction starter is used for higher compression engines usually , it doesnt have to work as hard to turn over engine
which is best ? im sure different brands and types have different pros and cons

it really depends on what you need- if you need a new starter motor anyway, you can get gear reduction starters for pretty much the same price as standard replacements but my advice would be not to mess around with it too much if you don't need to- i did and ended up switching back to a standard one cos the other ones caused me too many hassles

I just bought an aftermarket mini starter motor, about 1/2 the weight of a stock one and it's worked great. About $150 new.
