Has anyone with a T3/AU XR8 experienced premature alternator failure? Mine has carked it after only 62,000. At 600 skins for a new replacement, I am severely beaten about in the wallet department.

Obviously your car is not under warranty?
Is it possible to get it fixed by an electrician? I assume that would work out cheaper.

If that option isn't feasible, why not head to a wreckers and source a second hand one? I think 62000kms is premature for an alternator to bugger up.

Hope that info helps

Thanks for your reply Paul - no, it's out of warranty, but only by a couple of months. I've rung my dealer, who is usually very reasonable, and since I had to have the car repaired by an auto sparky, they are prepared to help me out here. I agree with you that this is a premature failure, and the dealer has since agreed this is so. I'll probably be out of pocket but not too badly.
