A good read, but like they say no performance of the line for the heavy vehicle it is,I just wish they were looking at putting the Boss into the Territory, and then I would look seriously at one,it need's a V8 option.

Who else gets the feeling the print media doesn't like the way Ford has released its info of the BA firstly and now Territory. It's been great for us online because we get the information so quickly it must take the shine of what the print media are putting out (personally I say suffer to them) although I can also sense that if they do have a criticism of anything with a car they drive it gets a "magnifying glass treatment". I think Ford's absolutely excellent use of the internet (in my opinion) has pissed off the print media and being only human, when you're pissed off you do take some form of revenge when given the opportunity.

Yeah, they did sort of pissed off at Ford. Which, as I see it, meant they tried to have a go at the Territory during the report.

I personally can't wait to see the Territory on sale. I hope it sells well.

They definately didn't seem too happy with Ford doing the drip-feed campaign again. Probably a combination of the fact that they want to know a lot in one go, and the fact that they can't get an exclusive of specs etc. because it is on the net first.

One thing I seriously don't understand though is the acceleration factor. Why the hell does it need to fly off the mark? It is a bloody soft-roader...how many people are going to need to drag at the lights in something like this? Sure it needs a bit of go to merge with traffic etc. but by the sound of it they reckon it wouldn't be able to keep up with a pushbike. Which is most definately wrong.

Even the SOHC 220 motor would be ok. I really fail to see why they have engineered this vehicle from the ground up, in AWD and RWD, yet don't even have the V8 available on the RWD models. No question the I6 will take up the bulk of sales, but you have to have the V8 as an option at least. Silly product planning in my books, just plain silly..

Yes a Territory(AWD) in the new Green with a SOHC 220 would be my ideal vehicle,

Lets hope the Territory II will get the SOHC motor. Shouldn't take too long for the boys in the stamping plant to come up with new dies to enable the motor to fit in the engine bay.. ;)

Rumour has it that series II will have a v8 option.

Digressing for a minute, how similar is the Territory to the Freestyle??

I believe the only things Territory and Freestyle have in common are the fact that they look similar...and that they are new AWDs. Not totally sure though.

I also seem to remember hearing that Ford USA seemed to be very impressed with Territory's dynamics compared to Freestyle.

Sounds exactly the same as what i have heard, maybe Territory should have been engineered for LHD and used in the US rather than having 2 different cars to do much the same job. the 2WD Freestyle is also FWD.

Agree with points raised here, and I have a couple of comments to throw in:
- perhaps the rwd/V8 combo wasn't a high priority, wasn't projected to sell many
- lhd compatibility would have meant the program would take even longer than it has, so we'd probably be looking at June 2005 intro...

Hopefully the V8 will be in series 2 model, also 6sp auto. LHD I can't see happening before a new generation, perhaps the Territory and Freestyle may be amalgamated at that stage.

Does anyone know what platform/hardware the Freestyle is based on? (ie as Territory is based on Falcon)

All I know is that the Freestyle is a larger vehicle than the Territory. Same basic design principle was used though..

Good point FM, dare say the USA will always demand a vehicle 1/2 a size larger than in Aust. so may be a bit hard to combine the two - hang on, what if there were 2 wheelbase options, that'd cover it? Same basic design, US version 100 or 150mm or whatever longer, half in rear doors, half in rear side window (rear overhang)

outback_ute- according to that article, Territory doesnt share the same platform as Falcon.
Near enough though that's why it makes such great economic sense and why it isn't LHD compatible. Plus there's no way that the US would just want Territory as their whole spare parts division than has to stock up on Aussie parts - it's just not going to happen.

As for platforms; Territory is to Falcon as Freestyle is to 500 (a new largish sedan being released around the same time). Do a search if your really interested.

What about the Turbo as an option, I would go for that, A nice black Territory with 19" rims and a turbo, thats what I would order.
