The 32-valve 5.4-litre InTech V8 in Lincoln's Blackwood produces copious horsepower and torque: 224kW at 5,000rpm and 481Nm at 2,750rpm.

Those are ideal numbers for XR8. Look at the torque - 481 at 2750rpm. That's the grunt factor Ford V8s need and at the right sort of revs.

This is a good sign. Isn't this the first DOHC 5.4L:confused: The Cobra R uses SOHC 5.4 doesn't it? If so, then this could be the baby heading our way:)

The torque is definitely up there and it's pretty low in the rev range, ulike the LS1, where its torque peaks at what, high 3, 4,000RPM???

The only thing that worries me is the power..220 out of the box doesn't seem high enough, although this could be a detuned version the pickup:confused:

Yeah i think power is modest there, engine hasn't been warmed yet.
But yeah that torque looks pretty serious, hmm that'll pull a few stumps out around my place :D :D :D

Farout 481Nm at 2750 thats pretty torquey probably too torquey wouldn't you want it at around 3000 - 3500 to give a decent top end speed.

I wouldn't be worried with that quoted power figure. Decent breathing exhaust and nice ported intake bits would see it rise to the occasion. That torque figure is just plain JUICY!! :damack: :gok:

Now where can I get me one of these, all alloy please? :D

Doh! Gotta get me a new clutch first! :( :thumbdown

The Cobra R uses twin cam heads which is why the huge hood is needed on its 5.4. I personally think a well executed bonnet buldge on a agressive car is the way to go but i think this will stop Ford from using that engine.

This other engine would need to be touched up a fair bit for a T Series in the top end dept without it ending up with inferior low down torque to an XR8 which would be difficult. Hopfully its detuned because i too think we need to be detuning engines for the XR8 rather than tuning them up for the T Series and more importantly future XR8s.

The reason for all that low down torque is the 90.2mm bore and 105.8mm Stroke. A Bore smaller than our 4.0L six but a longer stroke than a 428 big block. Youd really want it the other way round for a High Performce engine.....

Not so! Look at the Honda engines - high revs yet still long stroke. I LIKE strokers - can't beat that midrange rush for everyday driving!

Quite nice but i tend to agree with Martin. I would like an engine that has room for stroking later. That 5.8L could be possible then of course.A motor square in dimensions is a little better. Not wanting to moan about a good thing still.

I am guessing the blackwood is some sort of SUV with that amount of torque V revs. For car applications you could bank on those figures changing.

815 cubic inches is 13.3 litres. Should have no trouble with those tiny 5.7s then!
That's what you see in most semi trailers (Detroit Series 60 is typically around 13 litres - 350hp anyhow).

The Blackwood is the Lincoln equivalent of the Ford Explorer Sport Trac. For those that don't know what the Sport Trac is, its an explorer four door except with a tray in the back.

As seen here --->

Hello all,

First time reply to the thred, but have been actively reading for weeks now.

I think they should bore the 5.4 from a 90.2mm bore to around 93mm. (I would think there would be enough block material to do this). This with the 105.8mm stroke should give around 5.8litres (351ci for the old school). That way ford can build on the heritage of the old 351's but with a new techo V8 which will smash the general's troops into submission.

Base model's to have a single overhead cam 5.8l (235kW) with the XR8 and the FTE (TS50, GT and GTHO) to have various forms of the DOHC 5.8l (265kW, 285kW and the ultimate for the GTHO 325kW)

All this combined with the falcons better suspension ford should have a winner on their hands.

Well in my oppinion anyway.

I think the 13 litre Series 60 doesn't go past 1800Nm. In fact 3500Nm sound high even for the 16 litre jobbies. I thought they were more like low 2000s.

IRPACAUS:I like your plan. It fits right in my thinking as well. I hope Uncle Geoff and Happy Jack can see us right with something like this. I reckon most of us would love a car like this.
