The toploaders have a little hole on the shifter mechanism about 1 cm diameter where a little push button switch sits - put it in reverse get under the car and have a look - from memory it will be on the front of the shifter.

It's just above where all the linkages attach to the bottom of the shifter. If you can imagine the main shifter chassis frame where everythings bolts up - its on that.

Put the shifter into reverse (inside car) it sends the lower shifter lever forward which then pushes on a little round switch - or near where this hole would be. You can always drill your own.

My toploader also has a little switch built into the side of the gearbox (2 pin plug). I thought that was the reverse switch when I first got the gearbox - but it didn't work - who knows what it was?

Take a seat - ford genuine parts - about $60 from memory! bloody rip off!! It's no bigger that half the size of your little finger. I got mine from a local Ford dealer - about 4 years ago.

Next time I'm off to Dick Smiths, Tandy's or Jaycar Electronics. Measure your shifter hole and pick one up for a few bucks.

Not too sure about this switch on your bellhousing??? Not sure where that would go??

Cheers
AdrianXD.

It will only be a toploader if the box has been changed. I'm pretty sure all XC'c came with Borg Warner single rails.

I got my switch from GT Ford Performance in Melbourne and it cost $120 from memory. There are several different types available depending on the shifter type.

He bought it with a top loader in it. but according to ford at the time(1980) they checked it and said its a 1973 one from a 351 US made.
