David Thursfield, president of Ford Motor Co.'s international operations, wouldn't rule out importing Chinese-made vehicles to North America. "It's possible," he said.

But Ford COO Nick Scheele tempered the statement by adding that Ford is concentrating on filling the rapidly growing demand of the Chinese domestic market. Scheele wouldn't comment on whether Chinese production might be imported during the next 10 to 15 years.

Ford forecasts that annual industry volume in China will reach 7 million to 8 million vehicles by 2010.
