I know this is an old thread I'm reviving and sure you've found a solution to your answer, but I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding the problem. The only way to get a slow crank and drain the battery is by allowing it to crank several times before the engine starts.
I'm betting this user though he was replying to someone's post.
