Every car is different. The best thing to do is dyno your car and see what the powerband looks like. If you don't have the money or access to a dynomometer, I usually shift at 6k for 1 and 2, and 5.5k on up.

For totally stock GL, I would recommend shifting somewhere between 5.2K rpm and 5.5K rpm. After that, the engine wont generate any extra power or torque (I thought it always felt like the engine gave up after 5.5k rpm).
