Im looking for a cam and would liek the advice from those that have already done it or once done it in the past. I can remember reading a few different threads about people doing this but cant bother going through them all.

At this stage im sticking with what i have which is a rejetted weber. Im looking at max revs of about standard redline 4500, but maybe a little higher. Ive seen crow cams for $205 from www.superplus.com.au.

What 1/4 were guys puling after cam? Im sure 15.5 is possible as ive seen someone on FF do this with a 350 holley/cam. It was in there signiature, but im not sure who it was.

Thanks,
Pete

I haven't done a cam on a XF before but there is a guy in Nerang, Kelford Kams. He does regrinds for $80. If you want a billet he should be able to do it for $200 otherwise to machine your pedestals is ~$12 for the regrind.

He has a lot of grinds for OHV engines.

If you are keeping the weber try to keep the 050" duration under 207, this will keep most of your low end torque whilst boosting power everywhere else. If you are going a Holley or aftermarket EFI I would keep it under [email protected]".

The only problem with that grind IMO is that the advertised duration is very large for the 050" duration. I had a [email protected]" & 273 advertised dur cam ground for me. The more intense grinds tend to have broader power ranges.

A regrind with the lifters and pedestal machining would cost about $142. If you can get the ebay cam cheap like less than $100 it should be a bargin.

I will be keeping a close eye on how the bidding goes for that cam.

Whats the max HP anyone has seen from a weber?

I am not sure, but there is a fair bit of info at fordsix.com regarding the power you can acheive from different webbers, holley's etc.

ive been told from a source on fordsix.com that 245fwhp should be possible as it is pretty much a 350 cfm carb.

I would be very happy with an emisions compliant 180hp crossflow, just wish i knew what exact cam and other mods to do.

I wouldn't rate it at 350cfm or anywhere near that, Holley have a 32/36 DGAV knock-off that they rate at 180 cfm, the 34/34 on the crossflow would flow about the same. You can get power with a small carby (HQ racers) but you need lots of head porting, compression (12:1 plus) and a BIG cam. Also Holley rate their 2 barrels at 3" of vacuum!!

If you want an emissions compliant 180fwhp you will need good head porting a mild compression increase and a cam of about 215 [email protected]" with as much lift as possible on a 110 LSA installed 2 deg advanced. Induction would be a minimum of a 350 Holley, preferably 465 Holley or EFI. If going EFI you could go 112 to smooth out the idle for your auto(if you have one). This combo would need 3.23 diff gears to work well and/or a mild stall convertor to help you get out of the hole.

Duration @050 222/222 Cam lift 296/297 Duration Adv 290/292 Phase 110

I have been recommend this cam by wade with the specs of my car :)

Its four speed manual by the way Not Ford ;)

350 cfm for the weber at 3'' hg. XECUTE gave me the 245hp figure from the top 500 holley figure hes seen and then reduced it by 30% as that is the difference between 500 and 350. Makes sense to me.

That cam would be too big for a 350 Holley. A 465 is about the same size in the front barrels but has an extra 2. If your carby is pulling 3" of vacuum then you need a bigger carby, 1" is about right on the street.

Also that cam is too big for 180fwhp, its overly large adv duration will make it idle like a bitch. I have done 175rwhp on a hemi 265 with heavily ported heads and the [email protected]" cam I mentioned above, that equates to roughly 240fwhp. The 465 Holley was actually too small for it.

If you have the head ported properly and milled you can run a similar cam to mine for 190fwhp+. Provided you have good exhaust and intake.

I am going to go a regrind with the STD weber. I'll update you guys when its done.

Hey guys,

I know what porting is (where you modify the shape of the intake and exhaust ports for better flow and that) but how much would it cost for a XF EFI Six? And what type of mechanic should I contact, someone who works on heads, or does regrinds?

Thanks.

Depending on how much HP your chasing ive been told not to worry about it as the casting was so good in the first place. What do others say?

I dont think it increases KW's anymore, it mainly increses low end torque, which XF's always had, so an increase in that is always good.....

I found with mine it reves out quicker, i had my exaust ports done, and the area around the valves cleaned up a bit. You mainly need it if your running a bigger cam/carby etc. I would leave the intakes alone and work on getting the exuast side to suit.

Cheers
