I would like to know if it is possible to take the C4 automatic transmission from a 1967 Mustang convertible (289 4V) and put it into a 1966 convertible (289 4V). I do not want to "rig it" to work. What else do I need to change (radiator, driveshaft, etc.)? Thanks for any help!

I am not sure, but I think the different bolt patters 289s were from 65 and earlier. anyone else know??
well, my pony is a manual, but my first one was an automatic.

the bolt pattern may be different. as you said, you're swapping this from a '67 to a '66. it will fit without problems, but the bolt pattern on the bellhousing may be different. i had this problem when i swapped my engine into my current car. i was using a bell housing from a '64 falcon with the old engine and i had to pick up a housing from a '66 to fit.

if you can, take a pic of the back of both engines. match them up. you can also do an outline of the bellhousing. punch out the holes that will be bolted to the engine and match it up that way.
