Guys,

I've been looking at buying an XB Coupe for ages now and came across an XB fairmont.

What are the general differences from an XB Falcon Coupe to an XB Fairmont Coupe in terms of size, interior, options etc..

I have one of each and from what I can see,the differences are all cosmetic.The Fairmont has different door trims with bigger armrests,different seat pattern,extra interior lights in the rear pillars,plastic chrome interior door handle surrounds (I think),a boot light,chrome sill trims and wheel arch trims,a honeycomb panel across the rear,chrome trim on the top of the doors extending to the base of the rear pillar,a folding armrest in the rear seat,padded glove box lid, different hubcaps if not a GS,and a full length protection strip down the side.If either car is a GS it will have the GS dash,bonnet,steering wheel,12 slotters,and possibly a 4 headlight grille.The GS Falcon will also have a side stripe,but the GS Fairmont probably won't if it has the protection strip.I have probably left something out but I'm sure someone else will pick me up.

I have a XB Fairmont Yellow Blaze/chaimois interior,
The 2nd contributor has mentioned almost all.
Most fairmonts were optioned by either the client or the dealer, who sometimes added more glitz to it like cloth inserts and vynill roofs.
Mine does not have a clock!!, but does have factory air!! and is a six!!/Tbar auto and NO electric windows or central locking.
The extra trim if still on the car is worth getting the Fairmont
Honneycombe,door/window SS trim, etc. :sperm:

Fairmont interior and trim is the same as a GT. In the looks department it leaves the falcon interior for dead. The only other thing I can think of that was not mentioned is that Fairmonts also have the twin horn set up, also the same as the GT.

Not as noticable in the XC coupes. All XC coupes were GS falcon or GS Fairmont so all had sports dash and fluted bonnet, flip fuel cap etc. Interior trim is also a lot closer minus centre arm rest in rear seat, rear courtesy lights and padded glove box in the Falcon.
Door trims are the same in both Fairmont and falcon coupes.

"Falcon" or "Fairmont" badge near the passenger-side headlight(s) in the grille! Sorry, couldn't resist!

Orright, according to the brochure, Falcon 500 hardtop (XB) came standard with 200 cid 6 cyl, 3 spd, centre arm rest, full carpeting and heated rear window. Hold me back..... ;-)

Fairmont, (standard) had 250 cid with T-Bar, pb radio, clock, remote driver's exterior mirror, black painted boot interior (woo hoo!) with carpet and light, full wheel covers.

My 73 XB Fairmont coupe had no clock or remote mirror from factory. Maybe that stuff came standard later in the range. Times were simpler then. It hadn't been that long since car companies started putting things like demisters and seat belts in cars.

The XB Falcon 500 Hardtop was closer to the Futura Sedan trim as there was noo Futura hardtop, hence the full height door trims on a Falcon 500 Hardtop and a few other little things.

To add to the Fairmont trim, don't forget the chrome in the rear window, overriders ,speaker fader, rear demister and chrome strip running across rear of boot( rocking horse stuff).

Yup lotsa Chrome on the Fairmonts compared to the standard Falcon, they came with 4.1 litre engines, 3 speed T-bar Auto's, pushbutton radio, electric clock, 'black painted luggage compartment' with carpeted floor and lights all as standard, as well as 6" steel wheels instead of the Falcon's 5" double sided 'safety' rims, whatever they were!
