Ok, i'm at my wits end with the ****ing car.. so here's the deal.. It's not sucking fuel from the tank.

It's got a BRAND NEW fuel pump, brand new filter, brand new rubber joints for fuel line connections, fuel tank PROFESSIONALLY cleaned out. YES it does have fuel in it. Also, the carbie (standard Stromberg) has had a new needle & seat installed and cleaned out.
I've also blown out the fuel line with compressed air, cranked the engine with no plugs in etc.. the fuel pump is primed, but that was from a fuel can.. not the tank

can ANYONE shed any light on my problem before i give up and send it to my mechanic...

cheers, matt :AAHHH:

Is the valve on the fuel cap clogged? If so, it may be causing a vacuum when fuel is sucked out, stopping the flow. Try removing the cap and starting it up.

Bummer. Have to fault find bit by bit. Disconnect fuel line at pump and try blowing back down it - should hear bubbles in tank if not blocked. If OK, reconnect line. Then disconnect line at carb, crank it over (may take a bit to reprime pump!). Should have fuel if line and pump OK, if not, disconnect line at pump. Crank again - see fuel, pump OK. No fuel, pump stuffed.

If all this checks out, problem is at carb. The V8s often had a metal fuel filter at the inlet - yours may too. This may also be stuffed.

Good luck!

If you pull the accelerator cable around does fuel actually pump in the carby or not, in the carby itself maybe the float has been set wrong and so is jammed and blocking fuel flow, or the needle is jammed in the seat ??

the needle is free, and it'll run if i put fuel into the carbie, or run fuel from a fuel can... which is why i dont get it.. since the fuel line is clear and no blockages in the tank either...

ah well, cheers for trying to help.. it's going to the mechanic next week..
