Yeh I've been using Optimax since it's been out and it was OK in the EF Ghia 4.0, perhaps a little better on the economy side, mind you ya pay for it. Still the only one I use in the AU 5.0, but if I was to use another it would be the Mobil 8000.Same octane as the Shell (98), whereas I think the Vortex is just a new name slapped onto Caltex's old Premium which is only 97 octane. Not sure. Only once has the missus put normal unleaded in the AU, and sure enough I could pick it without knowing she had, pinged a little on medium throttle.
Rastus.

At the moment i have adopted mums car! ;)

Its a 96 EL with 67k's and i fill it with ULP, tryed Vortex and i could not see any difference. I get between 550 and 600km out of about 60 liters depending on how i drive it!
She runs sweet dosent miss a single beat! :D

These cars are so nice to drive on long distances, the only thing it lacks is the cruise control! :(

Once I'm done witha few cosmetic mods i'll put a few picturs up for you guys to see!

I used Optimax for a while, but didn't think the extra price was worth the extra performance, in my buz box anyway. Don't know if it really made a difference. Might try it more regularly and see how it is. I did notice idle was nicer though.

Guys,

Whats everyones opinion on Vortex, any bad news about it. I've heard that it strips oil out of the bore thus causing crank problems, hmmm i'll have to give vortex the flick.

my rotary runs on LPG!!!

Well guys, i diluted my Vortex with Synergy 8000, done it twice today to make sure, the Wagon runs like the clappers now :D :D
Can't stretch it's legs cause cops territory. Also didn't set me broke as i got Synergy 8000 for 94.9c decent price for top fuel.

I'll see how my car will go running with Synergy for a few weeks.

It measures the amount of Oxygen in the exhaust gases and is mounted on the exhaust as close to the engine as practically possible. The ECU uses the information as feedback to adjust the air/fuel ratio to stoich. or in some cases like the Falcon 6s to lean when in an extended cruise.

Oh, Do tell :)
Hehe well an explorer went in aorund her to get it's oxygen sensor(s) changed (1 for each bank) so they changed one, forgot about the other, after that the thing ran like a piece of ****, it got sent to bathurst, sydney, everywhere to try fix the problem, computers were tried, noone could work out the problem for about 12-18months....
Finally they changed the other oxygen sensor for the other bank, hey presto the thing ran as well as ever
I am surprised that this went on for so long, but it did, and damn was it a simple problem..

Can somebody please help me
Do the standard 5 litres (EB -> EL) not XR's have knock sensors, so as to get a better benefit from Premium and Optimax??

Vortex is a marketing name only, otherwise its stock premium with some last minute additive (so I'm told) and is not 98RON like Optimax and Synergy 8000. If you are picky about fuels, avoid it.

Vortex is the premium brand for Caltex but isn't a high rating fuel like the others are.

Mobil has a bad rep for the sulfur level being higher then the other fuels

The vortex fuel does have additives that clean the engine and intectors. I will be running two tanks to clean the engine out then switch back to standard ulp. To my knowledge none of the V8s have a knock sensor, so unless you have a chip or your engine has been tuned to the higher rated fuel any performance benefits are going to be questionable.

our workshop "mechanics" are going to look at the fuel consumption dilemma on my falcon today.

Just filled with reg ULP DTE says 420 but quickly dropped to 380 after 10ks. (Thats driving slowy off the mark and not past 2000rpm)

Im also getting them to replace the drivers side window runner/seal Its making a f$#^$#ing annoying vibration. (it stops when you hold your finger on it in the corner - i tried gluing it, but no luck)

Jaytyn,

Hope they sort your baby out, about the dodgy acceleration has it happened recently or it was like that from new.

Yeah been running Synergy 8000, so far so good, car runs like a rocket and very smooth up top compared to vortex.

Just wondering who has ran a tank of 98 RON fuel and put one of those fuel additives in as well like Nulon Octane boost.

I'm thinking to try it, will do the engine no good, or whats the story. My mate tried that formula in his skyline so he was in theory running like 106RON :D

Used Optimax in my Fairmont Ghia for the first time today. Not only did my trip computer tell me I was getting better economy, the car was driving better!!!

Previously in this vehicle I was running Synergy 8000, and also tried one tank of BP Premium...........

I shall stick to Optimax now.....

Thanks EF Guy,

As you know I work in a ford dealership, and I had my car booked in for Friday since last week... BUT they where too busy to get to it, and put me aside. (you know the attitude, leave staff till last)

Looks like they are too busy again today. Might have to take my car to ANOTHER ford dealership to get the problem looked at :\

They DID replace that noisy seal, but the bastard vibration noise is still there... does anyone else have this from their AU? Its the top right corner of the drivers window, a little vibration... ****ing annoying.
