Focus 2002 mk1 1.6
After connecting battery back after a few weeks disconnected to save battery power. The car starts but i am getting no movement from speed and rev dials, and the miles dont show and the oil and fuel still show in the mid position . teh dash appears to not be getting power.
i have checked fuses 35, 36, 41, 61 and they seem fine. I get the "lights" around the dash which is fuse 35 or 36 but nothing else.
What else can i do to narrow down the issue?
thank you

Provided you have refitted ALL wiring / cables at battery terminals, sounds like instrument cluster failure .Could try disconnecting a battery terminal for a few minutes and then refitting again , sometimes works by rebooting systems

Hi i have disconnected the battery 3 more times before i made this post just in case. unless i am looking at wrong fuses? i think i may have caused a short somewhere on the instrument cluster? as fuses seem ok from those i listed

Hi it's a common problem the connection plug on the back of the dashboard the pins on the board don't make contact you will have to remove the dashboard and take it apart to resolder the pins on the printed circuit inside the dashboard assembly .

ive had the car for 12 years. since buying a newer car i know use the focus as my backup. so was not in use for 3 weeks so disconnected the battery. dash was fine until i connected battery again. do you really think its a soldering issue? i dont have any of that type of equipment. just basic tools

Hi the fuses from this box didnt seem to indicate a relation to the cluster dashboard? so i checked the ones as mentioned that were behind the passenger side glove box. apart from the ones mentioned. are their other fuses i should check?

Seems that who ever made the dashes in 2000's did a bad job, my 2006 navigator dash had no odom or any of the computer screen working with a few other lights that would pop on and off, took dash out and sent it to a company in Missouri to repair all the solder joints, I did not trust myself doing the work. about a week later its back and I put it in and all is good. Good Luck !

well ive given the dash a hard smack now many times and no change. the dials just wont work and nor will speedo. everything else on the dash is ok it seems.

so if not related to any other fuses? i guess its an electrical fault?

looking to get a used instrument cluster but having a mare confirming what part number should be without spending time taking it off to find it. any clue as google has thrown up several different part numbers and the more i try and narrow it down i find a new one. is there an online database that would tell me what the part number would be?

An update.
after not using the car for 2 weeks as away on holiday. came back, connected negative wire again to battery. and worked fine with no issues.
Dont know why when i did this multiple previous times it didn't work. but it would mean maybe that there is a different issue?
going to keep battery connected for now and drive it every other day round the block.
If anyone has any ideas what was actually the issue that would be great if you can share
thanks

Sometimes you have to leave battery terminals off for a little longer to allow all circuits to fully shut down and them on reconnecting they reboot . Good you got it fixed , thank you for updating the forum (y) .

Electronic Tech here... the instrument cluster circuit board on my 2003 Focus did not have conformal coating on the solder side of the circuit board when I pulled it out and scrubbed it with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol with a stiff toothbrush. Replace all lamps while you have it out, and buy a cheap Weller soldering iron, touch the hot iron on all solder joints to eliminate any cold solder joints that no longer maintain continuity. Solved my dashboard problems of pavement jostles shutting down my instrument cluster signals (temp, speedometer, etc); then a few miles down the highway everything would come back on. Cheap and easy to check.
