Well after 3 months my car is back and sporting a fresh coat of paint. I'm now poor because of it, but the wait was worth it.

Next: Rims, lower the tail, retrim front seats and then no more money to be spent..... for the rest of the year :)

See for yourself:

Couldn't find a XB bonnet in time. I didn't realise there was a difference until later, would have preferred an XB item so it all matched and had bonnet lockdowns, but doesn't matter now. You'd have to know what you were taliking about to pick it

That's cool, some people prefer not to have the one's with the lock down pins, usually find them annoying such as getting jammed and can't open the bonnet.

I wanted a different colour but the costs and time were getting out of hand and i needed the car back. The pictures don't really do it justice, and it was taken in the shade.
But as for the paint job and body, its damn near perfect and the job Big Trev and the lads at Grand Prix Smash in St Marys have done is beyond reproach.

Now once i get the new wheels, it'll look complete, jellybeans just don't cut it.

My XB (76 model) came factory with the GS bonnet and no bonnet lock downs. It also had the XC type 9' diff, brake booster, XC front doors, XC radiator (wide type), and the XC master cylinder.
I purchased the car off the original owner with the order papers.

So they do come with XC parts sometimes.
There are also two XB's made that have the XC dash (verified by ford)

Looks good, did you prefer the XC GS bonnet or couldn't you find a XB one?
Whats the difference? I've got 2 XB GS/GT bonnets (1 damaged) and an XC GXL bonnet here. Theres no difference in the sheet metal. The only difference is the pins and they are a pain anyway. I prefer to run a pinless bonnet as when your in a time of need ie engine fire those pins will make it very hard. I wouldn't like to loose a car because I had pins.

Tick4D : I can explain the radiator but not the master cyl. The wide radiators were usually put in cars that had aircon. My 74 model XB has had a wide radiator from the factory. As the sheet metal on the RSP is uncut unlike my old XB.

Yeah, I found out about the XC radiators the hard way. I got one off EBXR and it was way to big for the whole in the front sheet metal.
My car used to be a 6, so it had a tiny radiator which doesn't help.

Scminer1: Yep, its Deep Aqua in colour.

Its still has the 6 cylinder diff, which is holding together admirably, but I need to find a suitable v8 BW or 9".

Apart from that, all I need to do is recover financially :)

Nah leave it.
See if you can score yourself a GS grille instead.

There is a brand new genuine GT grill if your feeling a bit rich for $1100....I hope your sitting down.
GS Grille was the same as the regular Falcon Grille. Driving Lights were an option on the GS.

I have heard from other people that XB's sometimes came with a 'lightweight bonnet' which was actually an XC bonnet. The XC had more cut outs and was therefore ligther. There's also the story about XC's in general being constructed of lighter guage metal, but I still haven't been able to verify that one. :eyebrow:

I also have an XC bonnet and a NOS XBGT bonnet, there is no difference in the sheet metal at all.

That looks really good! I'll show this to Kye when she says that im an idiot for buying an old car ;)

How much did it cost to do all that work?

So Id just have to get driving lights for that look?
I bought the car for $1900, swapped to a v8 for around $600, paint and panel was $4000 at mates rates.

I really enjoy driving it and turns too many heads, and even though friends have said that I'm crazy and wasted my money, I wouldn't have it any other way.

This weekend I'm adding Electronic ignition, and from there it'll only get better.

I've decided to leave the grill as it is at the moment.
