Tom & Jerry return to television screens across the UK in an action-packed, music-filled extravaganza to advertise the new Ford Mondeo!

The innovative execution uses the celebrated cat and mouse team in a classic chase scene. Using real life footage mixed with animated images, havoc is caused as Jerry tries to escape his arch enemy and finally outwits Tom by finding refuge in the Mondeo.

Peter Fleet, marketing director said: "We wanted to portray the notion of safety in a fun and entertaining way. Everybody has fond memories of Tom and Jerry. The chase scene was a natural fit for us to dramatise Mondeo as one of the safest places to be while also highlighting some of the new features of the car."

Over 1500 new parts lie behind the significant package of new technologies, interior and exterior enhancements – all focused on keeping Ford Mondeo at the top of its class.

Leading actor Jerry commented: "It felt great to get behind the wheel of the Mondeo to escape that stupid cat. I was impressed with both the comfort and quality of my escape vehicle, unfortunately I was unable to reach the pedals to experience the driving dynamics, though I hear they are really very good."

A feline of few words, supporting actor Tom was last seen plotting his next move to nab his elusive mouse nemesis, he did leave this recorded message: "It feels great to be back, I've now starred in over 200 cartoon episodes and although Jerry found a safe hide-out this time thanks to those pesky people at Ford I do not intend to give up the chase just yet."

Facts:

§ Four different styles of Tom & Jerry have been used over the years. It was decided that the Fred Quimby style was most memorable for the target audience.

§ All animation was created specifically for the advert. Jerry Ford, director of animation at Icepics was given just four weeks to produce Tom & Jerry's latest scene.

§ Icepics became the 'guardians' of the cartoon duo. They would not allow any actions by the characters that were not typical of the original.

§ The real life action was used as a template in which to paint the cartoon characters around.

The shoot took three days – two studio days for the inside of the house; one night shoot for the car outside the house.
Plastic models of Tom and Jerry were placed in certain scenes to help with the framing of the shots.
A music track was scored, and recorded using a 35-piece orchestra to enhance the quality of the sound. Sound effects were then placed over the music track to emphasise the drama at certain points of the commercial.
