97 EL Rev Limited??

I have a 97 el futura (auto) and was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me if they are or may be rev limited. Not long after I bought it, I was sinking the boot in a bit and it doesn't seem to want to rev more than 3500 - 4000 in any of the first 2 gears. Is this normal? If so, how can I increase the rev limiter?
Obviously I'm new to this so please use laymans terms!
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

thats nothing to do with the limiter? I gather you were accelerating in economy mode? As power mode changes about 5300 roughly.

EL's are speed limited to 180kph and rev limited around 5600rpm or so. I don't see any reason to take mine above 2000-2500rpm. It usually rev's to about 4000rpm but then I have 3 tonne on the back. 4.0's have plenty of lowend torque.

Nope, power mode. It seems to want to go, but it's almost like it's not getting fuel fast enough.(?) I've just had it serviced at the local ford dealer too! It'll stay peaking at 3500 - 4000 as long as I hold down the accelerator, when I back off a bit, it'll change into the next gear. It's got me stumped, my stock eb goes harder!

Common problem on these cars, especially the earlier E-Series was the accelerator cable stretching. Get someone to sit with the accelerator pedal to the floor (not with the engine running :AAHHH: ) and look under the bonnet, see if the cable is pulling the lever on the throttle body all the way. It should be quite obvious if it is or not.
Just a starting point maybe?
