Does the premium sound have a source level adjustment? Many of the aftermarket units allow you to +/- level on CD/Cass relative to the radio.

You could record the tapes again at a higher signal level, presuming it's low. That would bring your Cass/CD levels more on par with each other

 

I just have the mid-series sound system but I find the CD does output higher than the radio like you say (probably not by quite as many volume numbers as you mention though). I haven't tried pressing FM or AS a second time, I'll try it later and if it makes a difference like yours does I'll let you know.

 

Radio signals often seem to be transmitted with low levels to ensure the quality of the signal when received and converted. The levels on your average CD/tape depend on the levels used in the mastering process of that recording - I've watched the mastering process in action myself (very interesting!) You used to be able to modify the recording levels on some old tape recorders - most stereos now automate them to avoid too much 'red-lining' (causes noise/distortion.) Bit like a car engine actually - red lining is bad if it happens to much. You'll find some of your own CDs have differing levels resulting in variations in actual volume at the same level on your stereo.

 

It's a common problem with AUII/AUIII premium sounds systems. When i brought my AUII the radio & CD volume were equal. Then the stupid stacker jammed & ford gave me a AUIII deck now i have the same low volume problem. Though i have never tried pressing the FM button again. Just make sure that your aerial is plugged in securely. I can't be bothered asking ford to replace it again.

I've noticed in my car, that when i'm listening to a CD and then i switch to the radio FM i find that the volume is really really faint, but when i press the fm or AS button again the volume goes alot higher.

I have the same problem, so it's not just you. Like you, I just live with it. Not worth bothering about, IMO.

Maybe I'm getting old but my wife has the music so loud that it's on the threshold of pain.

Nothing worse than turning off the CD and getting blown away with the radio instead.

I now automatically turn the volume down before I even start the car!

My wife's brother works with the guy who bought our old AUI S pack. He recently sold it as he was sick of the crackle in the speakers.

If he had heard how loud it used to get played he'd have realised that the speakers were shot.
