EA Ghia - Fuel Tank Size 100L ??

What is the biggest factory size full tank that could be fitted to an EA Flacon/Fairmont/Ghia??

I thought the tank size was 68L, but when I filled it up this morning (1st time got it a week ago or so with a full tank [I think .... well gauge showed full]), the fuel gauage seems to work fine, and was on about 1/2 way, and i put in 50 Litres, so that would mean a 100L tank or there abouts, or I may have a faulty fuel guage.

Anyone know ? :1read: :help:

Same prob here. '88 EA GL. Gauge was 1 small notch past 1/4 of a tank and i put in 67 litres. Have done this figure more than once. Also gauge seems to sit on full approx the first 200km and then slowly drop. As it gets nearer to 'empty' it drops faster, finally taking approx 67 litres at 1 small notch beliw 1/4. Im not game to keep going and see if its actuarly empty or holds more fuel that im lead to believe an EA does.

OK

Now im pretty surfe your gauge is playing up why dont you get a jerry can with 5 litres of fuel and run it dry thats an easy way to tell and it it is playing up try this. Im unsure on the Ea but my eb in the boot i unscrewed a peice on the floor that game me access to the pump and the connections there allways foul up and cause the guages to allways play up. Get a paperclip clean out connections of each plugs and spray some crc in there then reconnect them see if your guage works properly then

Won't this damage the injectors to run it dry ???

Otherwise I have a few 5 litre jerry cans at home and I am as game as anyone to test the theory, I will give the terminals a clean though, if you have a panel in the boot, doesnt like things have changed since my XF.

well running it dry can potentially cause a few problems, one is that the EA fuel pumps use the fuel to keep them cool, when run dry, they usually shit themselves, another thing is, if you are lucky enough for your pump to work after running it dry you would have probably picked most of the shit up from the bottom of your tank and run it through the fuel system

Well yes there is another good point or 2 not to run it dry, I think I will just work out the fuel economy and drive by the trip meter, and not run it dry.

My XF had the wonderful problem, of showing full when it was full or empty, was only occasionally, so couldnt trust it.

So worked out how many Klm's per tank where possible and drove it using that as a guide instead.

My XF could fit 68 litres in a 63 litre tank if I filled right up :).

So I expect the EA may have a few litres sitting there just in case as well :)

Fuel gadge is a bit funny. Does it in my car- takes ages to get to down to 1/2 full, then flys down to empty

My fuel guage was fine until i did a engine conversion from the 3.9MPI to a 4.0MPI, i had to change the fuel pump because hte engine would get starved under full load, now the guage never shows it as full, but otherwise it is fairly accurate

All sedans except for fairmont ghia sed hold 68L and fairmont ghia & wagons have 75L tanks I think. It was in my cousin's ED Fairmont Ghia owner's manual.

My ED Fairmont Ghia V8 has a 68Ltr tank, those people that have trip computers you can realy rely on them as i have since i got my car.

The fuel gauge needle had just passed the red mark and the fuel light had been for about 50kms when i puled into the servo the trip computer said there was about 27kms left to that tank of fuel, this is about right as i could only put in 64Ltrs.

I use my trip computer, its always pretty acurate.
Got to 3kms left one day, filled it up- then it coughed as if it was about to run out-- then the new petrol got through the pipes and i was off

My question to Ford:
Can you please tell me what size tank came on the EA Ghia model, was it
68L or possibly 75L, I have just bought one and I am not sure what size it
is, and have heard 75L tanks were an option??

The Answer:
Thank you for your email to the Ford Customer Relationship Centre.

The EA Falcon Fuel Tank Capacity was 68L for Sedan and 72L for Wagon.

We hope this helps you.

Well would like a bigger tank, but thats the official answer for anyone who cares.

G'day,

The tank is 68 litres useable. Which means (just ask VT drivers) that a bit more is possible.

If you look under the car, you will notice the tank is plastic, which prevents rupture in advent of a crash. It's an awkward shape to fit in the space available.

Do not replace it, as you will severly expose yourself to danger if in a crash. A boot mounted fuel cell sound like a better idea.
