I just picked up a 2003 Grand Marquis with 63k miles. The power pedal adjustment is kind of a joke, there's hardly any travel in the pedals. I just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with the car. I measured the travel and it's about 1/4".

Something has to be wrong. Look under the dash at the pedals and push the switch. Maybe the gears are stripped or something is binding.

I do have the workshop manual and saw some of the detail on the pedal and stuff. There is a lot of junk in there and personally I wouldnt mess with it, there is a certain way to reset or calibrate the pedal positon. It talks about this in the workshop manual. Maybe you can find a workshop manual real cheap on ebay or the internet. If you do a little of your own maintenance then the book pays for itself. I'm not a major mechanic, but do what I can at home and save some money. The workshop manaul has already paid for itself.

The pedals on my 03 Ford Expedition starting doing this the other day - only move about a an inch. It started when it got really cold here in the midwest. Once the temperature gets a bit warmer I'm gonna look into it a bit especially since my short wife used it last so they are way too close up for me.
