Revving those sixes

hey guys.. i've looked up the red line of falcon sixes but i wanna know real life figures that you've all experienced. i've got a leaded carby fed 4.1 crossflow alloy head six in my XF and i rev it to 4000rpm regularly (and it sounds wonderful with its loose valve train) so i'm calling that my limit because my max power comes in at 3700rpm (it been dyno'd). its also been taken to 5000rpm once or twice when i blip it trying to loose traction and its not real good.

i just wanna know what the older cast iron head and the newer OHC e-series 3.9s and 4.0s will rev to comfortably.

bout 5000 is the end of the power for an ohc 6 in mild tune

I have a 250 alloy head and i shift at 6800-7000
what sort of work have you done mate? is it the EFI model and what is your power band like? eg. does it start from 2000rpm or from 5000rpm?

my Au 4.0 in my EB will rev to rev limit cleanly, at 5600... all it has is a small cam..
My 250 in the cortina will go to 6500 no wories, im running an after market ecu, and have set rev cut at 6200, just to keep it all together for a bit longer. Cam and valve springs will get a 250 or a 4.0 reving over 5000 cleanly

Hit the rev limiter by accident in mums EL for the 1st time last night. Foot was burried and gear selector in 1. planned on moving it at 5500 so it shifted just before the redline. Obviously im a little slow. It worked great the 1st time, but the 2nd time it JUST tagged the limiter. You can REALLY feel the power drop away after 5500 in the EL motors...and they're not sounding particularly great at this speed either. It shifts a bit before 5500 in D with power mode on.

The falcon 6's are not the revviest engines due to their longer stroke, however, with enough $$$ and time... you can get it revving to whatever you want.

Hi mate, its an 82 model block with a highly modified head (398hp) custom wiseco pistons to suit the preped 200 rods, full stud kit, balanced bottom end, 600 dp 70 /75 jets. Custom pipes by noiseworks in brisbane into 3' mandrel bent exhaust, c4 4000 stall by burpengary trans, borgy with 4.11 gears. 26x9 dot american racers, msd etc, I run it the other night 12.8@ 107 with pipes up cleaner on etc . But its not tuned yet and i'm still having timimg issues. It should run 12.5 /12.4 in street trim then i'll hit the bottle as thats what its built for. It runs a gas cam and convertor. Cheers Don Oh and its power band is awsome the convertor is very tight. If it wasn,t full manual it would drive like a stocker
