Okay,

We hopefully can get together a group again to do a purchase of UD Pulleys in April. After testing the water at the end of the old thread, I thought a new one might be in order.

So far it seems we have at least 3 or 4 people interested. Please indicate in this thread. Someone will have to organise the group and get onto Barry about it.

Okay so far we have 2. Won't get much of a discount with 2. I am sure there would be at least a few more people wanting this upgrade, and able to purchase in April.

I haven't got a price back from Battens yet, but will put it on here when I get one. This will be for a single unit. Once we have a few more people we will see what sort of discount he can do for a bulk buy.

This has got to be the cheapest way of gaining a few KW! Need to find out how much I can get an AU Alternator pulley for now.

Will put a note in the EA forum to see if that catches anyone

Bumpity bump bump, I think we need more than 2 people to get a decent discount from BBP. C'mon guys, surely some other peoples out there are after one of these !

Else I gues it's just you and me B-1B

Something strikes me as rather odd about these underdrive pulleys, reading though the previous posts I noticed that the pulley on the alternator has to be changed to an AU type to bring the speed up again. Considering that the greatest load on the system is comming from the alternator isn't this rather counter productive.

Are you sure the greatest load is from the alternator? (I have no idea!). I wonder how much of the extra gained is removed again. If the main pulley is 25% smaller, and the alternator is marginally smaller I don't think all of the gains would be lost .... need to talk to someone who knows about these things ...

Yep, once you load an alternator up it gets very hard to turn, have a look at portable generators and the size if the donks they put on them. The dyno knows all, but all the dyno reports I have seen are post underdrive and pre alternator pulley change. The main plus from the underdrive pulley is at high revs, the minus is at idle. At idle is when you need the alternator to spin well the most, thermos etc. How much time does your car spend at either end of the rev range? mine spends 95% of it's time between 900-2500 rpm with the odd peak up to 4500 rpm. 250kw is great, but if it's at 6000 rpm what good does it do you?

Good point. May have to rethink this idea if it is no good at the low rev range.

pulley doesnt do add much performance. Highly noticeable, only on high RPM range. Already dyno test with March Pulley. The hardest working pulley is the fan. If not that, its the crankshaft spinning with inertia force.

Yep, the fan would place the greatest load, but most Falcon drivers use electrics, transfering at least some of that load to the alternator. Secondly your logic is not sound on the other point, the crankshaft pulley is providing the energy.

i know the crank supplies the power the force ~ it's called inertia (e-ner-shia) force ~ its the counterweight of the crankshaft that throws the force of the flexplate that creates the powerflow on out to the trans and etc.

Naturaly any moving mass will have inertia, but the change in inertia on the crankshaft by fitting a lighter pulley would be impossible to measure and that same inertia would be there regardless of what was connected via a belt.

Despite everyone's reservation I have ordered one. Am going to install it at the same time as the EL thermo's I have. Will let people know what the end result feels like. For me it is about the feel of the drive, not just figures on the Dyno!

how much did it cost baeddan?

im looking at doing the mod too...looks like the april purchase isnt going ahead???

I note that people who dont have them are the most sceptical. The people that I know of that have done it rave about them.
I was hoping to slip in a BOSS set amongst the windsor ones but looks like the boat turned into a dinghy and left without me anyway

so you are interested jeff? lets see how many we can get together for a purchase

who else is interested? i want mine on my doorstep by next friday!!!

lol.The boat didn't turn into a dingy, it sank and was then every man for himself.

Notice people suddenly want to buy one AFTER we order them :p~

Everyone who has one has no complaints, and I think that is recommendation enough! Hopefully it will arrive this week and I can install it next weekend!

no definately not just for eastern staters - anyone is welcome to join in

the rough cost will be around $200

nope, quite easy to fit yourself

there are several tutorials available on how to do it

its pretty easy and apparently the folks that have done it reckon its a great mod - very good bang for buck
