I usually run HPR50 but have valvoline 20/50W in it at the moment. I'm switching back to HPR50 soon as I've got an oil consumption issue that it had bugger all of with the HPR50.
when i used the valvoline a few years back oil consumption was a problem to and i could smell it in the engine bay burning, changed back to shell helix 20w 50 no issues :priest:

Mines coming out the tailpipes via the rings :shh: Well that's what I think. It's also being slightly sucked up by the pcv due to being thin and running like water. Odd thing is there is still visable hone marks in the bores. :BW:

i think it just breaks down, i know people swear buy it but i would not use it again in a modded engine, i wouldnt use it in anything really. ive heard this same thing from others as well.i just cant say enough for the shell product.and have used the penrite hpr50 alot as well with no probs :priest:

It would depend on preferenve wouldn't it. Also your 351 aint stock is it. The fella who built the motor in my car uses and recommended Penzoil straight 40 i think it was.
Yeah just curious, as no one mentioned it. Would the HPR50 give better
oilpressure while hot. I don't know much about oil weights, but am nearly ready for an oilchange, and would like to see more pressure when hot.
(not at the expense of volume of oil :hy:)
The autoshops here in Cairns freak when i mention HPR50. They recon too thick?? Oviously you all have a good run with it by the sounds of it, so must work fine.

i have been using HPR50 in my clevo for years :hy:

runs good steady pressure hot or cold.

i started using it after sitting in at a seminar by the penrite reps, explained that the light wieght oils are made for the nth hemisphere (usa , canada , europe ) where the temps are much lower.
for the typical australian temps a heavier oil works better in the older style engines , so if you are in cains then i would be using the HPR50 for sure.

just as a comparision - i use HPR10 in my LPG powered BA ute.thats what is recomended by penrite themselves.
its because of all the extra moving parts in the valve train on the newer cars that they need a light oil.

i work at autobarn and tryed some of the penrite usa imported gt racing series oil in my clevo 25/50w and it was sought of noisy and didnt run as smooth and i have just put hpr50 in to try get over an oil pressure problem and found that the motor ran alot smoother on the penrite and one of the older guys that i work with said he wouldnt sell anyone anything else b8ut penrite he has always had nothin but good fortunes with it

Thats right i know a lot of people or swear by Penrite. They've got my vote anyhow. The penzoil seemed alright but the penrite just seems that bit better, probably only marginal. I think the penrite HPR series is the highest quality oil you can get unless you go to the synthetic stuff. I was shown how you can tell, theres something on the bottle. Can't remember now.

I gave penrite a call just to check if I should be using HPR15 in my motor. I read a couple people in this post use HPR50.
Penrite say unless the motor is very well run-in and almost run out, it shouldn't be using HPR50. its too thick and puts more load on pumps than is needed on a newer motor. They recommend HPR15 and HPR30 on motors with a couple thou km's already done.

so why are you guys like brenx running HPR50? it would raise oil pressure, but i think it would have more of a negative result/effect.
