G'day,

I'm currently pricing around for a Black BA XR8 Ute. I have priced a few dealers & so far the best price I have come up with is, $44 600.

This includes; " BA XR8 Ute, Manual, 18inch Mags, Black Paint, Leather & matching hard-top. " Im also getting some extras like, floors mats, etc.. thrown in.

Just wondering what prices use have paid for your XR8 Ute?

Cheers

Jason_m9,

Yeah the dealer threw in a broken tailgate on mine too, I decided to take it back and swap it for a dash squeak and brake shudder. Seems that I wasted my time as the squeak seems to have gone and the shudder is hardly noticable, talk about low-grade faults. Luckily they're no-cost options as I'm not going to pay good money for brake shudder that's standard on an XT.

keep working on the saleman. be absolutely ruthless. the saleman will respect you more if you screw him right down.that 44k you were talking about is way to much this time of the year the car market goes quiet so now is a great time.take a mate with you when you shop with the instruction to keep demanding expensive that options be thrown in for free. one thijngs for sure if you dont ask you wont get.even when the deal is allsown up hit the dealer for tint a tank of juice and dont settle for his compromise . squeeze and you will receive.if the dealer offers togo half the cost on some thing dont budge and if he waivers asak /insist on more be ruthless, the dealer is not your mate he just wants to sell a car and get a commisin and make himself look good inthe dealer principles eyes go hard and you will be surprised how much better than the sticker price you can get. 10% better than the sticker price where you should be.dont sign there and then . the second time you see the saleman the more flexible he will be .by then he knows you have done your research and are no bunny.do your research

'be absolutely ruthless', ' the dealer is not your mate', ' just wants to sell a car' ......

and you guys wonder why you get screwed over by car dealers with attitudes like that? What goes around comes around .... I suppose.

Wonder what might happen if you treat a salesperson as someone who might be able to help you and get you the car, the deal and the total experience that leaves you far happier, not to mention less stressed, than the completely 'me against them attitude' bruiser espouses .... (no offence here bruiser is intended, I just have a different view to express)

I'm all for getting the best deal you can for yourself but there is no logical reason why the confrontational 'ruthless' way of negotiation will work better than a calm, knowledgable and 'business partners' approach.

I'm sure many in this forum are small business people themselves. If you have a customer coming to you being a ruthless 'price oriented' mongrel demanding you to give more, more, more can I ask what your attitude toward he or she is likely to be even if they eventually buy your services or goods from them?

You certainly would think they are the scum of the earth and probably you would be tempted to have a little 'win' over them in the provision of your goods to them at some later date. Do you think a Dealer might be tempted to do the same with you and YOUR car? Who knows ..... perhaps.

There is really no science in getting the best price for yourself and its not like Dealers are making thousands of dollars out of you even at their "best price" so my advice would be to show some respect, accept that knowledge is power, and that being a hard nosed pr**k is extremely unlikely to save you any money ... over a more controlled and knowledgeable approach.

No flaming please .... as I've said no one can blame anyone for trying to get the best deal for oneself .... just trying to get some rational debate / opinions on the WAY to go about it.

Organza...

Good points and very well put...

Just reading through this thread, I can't find any member complaining about being screwed over...

Would be happy for you to direct me to where that is.

I am as happy as a pig in poo with my ute....

Never Seen A Dealers Bottom Jaw Drop So Much, Seems As Though They Were Not Allowed To Put Their Cut On The Vechile.

You're right Jason ..... no one was actually complaining about getting a raw deal from a Dealer ...

I guess at the time I was writing my chapter in the thread I was thinking along the lines of "well if you go to a Dealership and be ruthless and treat the staff like enemies then how do you think they will treat you back, both at negotiation time and later on down the track" ..... hence the screwed over comment.

Basically --- knowledge is power in a negotiation and if you know what you want to pay and have a pretty good guide from threads like this what others have paid .... then you are in a good position to have a controlled discussion to a Dealer to get where you want to be.

One final thing .... AGRO, I really want to believe what you've said about your driveaway price .... but it just doesn't add up or be realistic.

RRP prices (off ford.com.au)

An XR8 manual ute $40,925
Metallic paint $ 315
4 x 18 inch alloys $ 1,500
Leather $ 1,015
Sports Bar $ 735
SUB TOTAL $44,490

Dealer Delivery $ 1,495
On roads $ 1,200
TOTAL $47,185

YOUR PRICE $35,819

DIFFERENCE ~$11,500

That difference is not real world possible even with a huge discount from a Dealer .... unless its a used car or they sold you an XR6. Checked under the hood lately, mate? :)~

At this stage ... unless AGRO can come forth with some more detailed info .... I'd say you can safely ignore this info.

well he said that a mate of his organised it from the ford factory, an don't ford employees get somethin like 24%(i think) off or somethin like that?
It's be mentioned before in another thread how much exactly they get off but i cant remember exactly...

#22 ·
Wow that is a decent discount then!!

#23 ·
Sorry guys.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with a purchase direct from the ford factory, well here it is. Only available to approved employees (of which my friend pulled a swifty), they can buy cars at very cheap prices.

Organza.... Sorry mate, it is possible because the car is sitting in my driveway!!!!
I'm sure it's a V8 cause it looks like one under the bonnet, well I think it is anyway!

Here's what I paid.....from the ford factory-->>(not from a dealer).

XR8 manual $32,428
Metalic paint $202
18" $1188
Leather $804
Sports bar Free (thrown in)
Dealer delivery N/A
On roads @$1200

TOTAL $35822

Not every day we mannage to pull in a bargin in like this one, so I just thought I would rub it in, as you buggers probably would if you picked it up cheap! Drool over the price if you want, but unless you know someone who works within ford... and an approved employee, you more than likely will pay what Organza stated earlier.
Yes I know guys...it's just bloody highway robbery, but I finally was on the receiving end this time.

Cheers.

I'm in the middle; supplier discount. Don't get as bigger discount ($5000 to $8000 off retail price of all BA's except FPV's) and the dealer doesn't have to discount accessories although they do have to discount delivery. My dealer charged min. delivery ($795), gave discounts on all accessories and screwed up some figures to boot resulting in $7300 off full retail.

If you had have asked me last year if I would by a new car and if so would it have been a Ford (AU) I have to admit the answer would have been NO and NO! But within 1 month of becoming eligible for this discount I placed an order. From the moment I saw Tickford (pre FPV) pre-production BA XR6T's and XR8's here at our plant I was hooked. When the discount came I couldn't resist. I also had no clue how affordable the XR8 Ute was (with discount) until my wife asked a dealer (see my first post on FF), I had already set my sights for an XR6 Ute. Even at full price it's fantastic bang for the buck and an incredible package despite it's flaws (although accessories easily send the price into the stratosphere) . Just as well because this is going to be my ride for years...
