Hey guys,
just purchased a 2001 grand marquis
having the usual power window issues as everyone else seems to have . here is what i have done
(front passenger window wont go up)
Stupid me jumped the gun and bought a new doorman motor,
took it all apart and of course the cable assembly all let go when i took it out , so then i took the regulator out. found it will need replaced soon too as its getting worn.

bench tested my old motor with 12v and works fine both ways.
when i plug it in it powers down but not up off the switch.. on both doors .. master drivers side and the passenger side. figured it could be the motor ? tried the new one i had bought and does the same thing.

figured it could be the switch .. cleaned all the connections and tried. still no luck , i even took the unlock/lock button and plugged it in the slot , still does the same thing..

im now trying to find the power relay .. does this car have one for the windows? and if so where is it ?? (passenger front ) cant find it in the fuse diagram.

thanks!

Ouch, yeah I sometimes forget to start with the cheapest solution first too.

I had Wierd windows issues with my 04 CV when I bought it. I was gonna "just" clean the connections on my switches too but I started looking at how they are assembled. Decided to take one apart, and was amazed by the simplicity.

Basically there's only about 8 parts. The electrical contacts get pitted and worn over time. If you shine em up with some high git sandpaper, steel wool or an Emery board they will again be able to conduct electricity.

Apply a light coat of dielectric grease to the contacts to keep them oxidation free and you're good to go. The grease is available at any auto parts store.

If you've got a couple of extra switches laying around.... Give it a shot.
